The ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic has revolutionized the education system and forced fundamental changes in the teaching–learning process. The present study aims to explore various modes of education used by educational institutions across the world and provide a holistic understanding of different measures taken by governments and universities to endure the crippling crisis. The radical shift to digital pedagogy followed by online assessments and examinations brought new experiences to both educators and learners. This paper elucidates the extraordinary challenges encountered by various stakeholders in making the required shift to digital learning and the substantial attempts made by educational institutions to minimize learning losses. The paper also presents various opportunities induced by the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the need to develop appropriate mechanisms to deal with such an unforeseen crisis in future. To this effect, some recommendations have been made that may enable educational institutions to eliminate adversities and maintain academic integrity in tempestuous times.
The COVID-19 pandemic has wrecked havoc on the mankind and caused dramatic disruptions in personal and professional lives of the people. With economies at the verge of collapse, businesses pushed to a standstill, forced alterations in work environment, and uncertainty about the future, this global health crisis has severely impacted employees and organizations. The virus has not only impacted employees physically but also psychologically as they experienced plethora of intense emotional fluctuations. In this regard, the present study aims to synthesize and analyze the existing literature on the subject and present a conceptual framework to aid understanding of the emotional repercussions of pandemic for employees and organizations at large. The extensive review of literature suggests that the perilous crisis resulted in numerous negative emotional outcomes which majorly converge into three i.e. stress, burnout, and depression. This emotional turmoil gets further reflected in employees’ performance at work and thus a conceptual model is developed to holistically capture and present such varied impacts of pandemic on employees. The study also posits that the deleterious emotional impacts can have grave ramifications for the organizations and thus, seek immediate attention of the organizational leaders, managers, and policy makers. Against this backdrop, the practical implications of the study are mentioned and recommendations are made, that may help employees and organizations to survive and sustain any such future crisis situations.
The technological revolution is dramatically transforming the educational topography of the world, wherein humankind is experiencing drastic alteration from classroom learning to e-learning. The shift has brought a landmark change in the experiences of educators, learners, and administrators and has highlighted the different nuances of digital pedagogy. This study aims to present a global standpoint on the technological outbreak in the education sector. It investigates copious advantages and opportunities of digital learning and significantly focuses on different technologies deployed for its implementation and improvement. Various technologies, such as extended reality, cloud computing, crowdsourcing, blockchain, etc., have brought a phenomenal switch in the educational methodology and have improved the efficiency and effectiveness of the education stakeholders and processes. Additionally, the paper also attempts to draw attention to the variety of initiatives both western and eastern countries undertake to enhance technological adoption in the education sector. In this light, the study serves as a ready reference for education scholars to understand the invasion of digitalization and the related global developments in the education sector.
The world has witnessed dramatic changes in the education sector especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The academic institutions had to immediately shift to online modes of education where most countries were not prepared for this sudden transition. The radical shift from traditional modes of education to the digital modes of education resulted in a lot of friction initially from the stakeholders, but eventually, many advantages and strengths of the same were realised. In this light, the present study aims to extensively review the literature and present a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis to systematically present the different nuances of online education. The study serves as a ready base for academicians and educational institutions' administrators to comprehensively view the holistic development and digital change in the sector and the repercussions on various stakeholders that follow.
