We investigate the two-body reactions KN → KN , KN → πΛ, and KN → πΣ via single-energy partial-wave analyses in the center-of-mass (c.m.) energy range 1480 to 2100 MeV. The partialwave amplitudes for these reactions thus extracted were constrained by a multichannel energydependent model satisfying unitarity of the partial-wave S-matrix. We obtain excellent predictions of differential cross sections, polarizations, polarized cross sections, and cross sections for these reactions from a global energy-dependent solution.

Analyses of local government contracting increasingly focus on understanding how the transaction costs created by service attributes limit opportunities for external service production. However, the institutional collective action framework suggests that networks among local government actors help to offset these costs for intergovernmental contracting decisions. We use data describing service production arrangements of cities in Michigan to examine the proposition that service production decisions are conditioned by the communication networks created through institutional linkages in addition to the transaction characteristics of services. We examine three different production options: (1) internal production, (2) joint or complete contracting with another government, and (3) production by a private or nonprofit organization, and find strong support for the expected role of transaction costs in these production choices. We also find that some types of networks created by institutions increase the likelihood that local governments will rely on intergovernmental service arrangements.

We present results of a new multichannel partial-wave analysis for πN scattering in the c.m. energy range 1080 to 2100 MeV. This work explicitly includes ηN and KΛ channels and the single pion photoproduction channel. Resonance parameters were extracted by fitting partial-wave amplitudes from all considered channels using a multichannel parametrization that is consistent with S-matrix unitarity. The resonance parameters so obtained are compared to predictions of quark models.

The authors develop and test an integrated framework for understanding how transaction cost and exchange embeddedness contribute to the general problems of institutional collection action, contracting, and cooperation. An application of the framework to Georgia cities’ interlocal cooperative behavior across multiple services suggests that interlocal cooperation provides a viable alternative to both private contracting and hierarchical arrangements and that transaction characteristics—asset specificity and measurement difficulties—and reciprocal exchange relationship predict the participation and the amount of interlocal cooperation. A curvilinear relationship was discovered between transaction characteristics and interlocal cooperation that extends Williamson’s linear prediction.
