Education setting evolved from historical open learning system to traditional classroom set-up to distance learning modality. Teaching-Learning practice is transformed with an evolution of teaching-learning materials. Comparatively fresh topic in Nepali academic setting, this paper intended to analyze the perception of Nepali students towards online modality in Nepali academic setting. This paper further analyzed the student’s preference towards distance learning in current Nepali academic setting. Research findings were analyzed based on data collected through literature review, interview with students and professor and quantitative data collection through use of google form. Study identified opportunities as revenue generation; continuation of academic career from any part of country; increase learning outcome among jobholders. Study identified challenges as unequal access and quality of internet facilities; affordability of laptops/computers; limited interaction; and frequent disturbances. Seeing the better prospects, study strongly supported the need of shift in academic shift from traditional setting to non-traditional setting in Nepali context to meet the global needs of competitive and quality education.
Annually, millions of people (including children) across the world face minor to severe impact from natural or human-induced disasters. Diverse models have been conceptualized and adopted at global scale to increase resiliency of children from disasters focusing on preparedness, response and recover. As children spend most of their lives at school or at home, this paper discusses on factors contributing towards improving or degrading resiliency of children from disasters. Giving low priority to institutional resilience, this paper highlights the behavioral aspects of children which becomes their strength on demonstrating appropriate practices to mitigate disaster risks on self at school, home and community. While doing so, attributes from Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior has been linked with the components of resilience to explain the causative factors. Adopting desk review, this paper describes behavioral attributes of children and emphasizes on need of having multi-dimensional framework to enhance resiliency of children.
In this modern age of competitiveness and the quest for sustainable income source through adoption of innovative approaches, the preference towards self-employment is ever increasing among individuals in global scenario. In Nepali scenario, as the rate of employment opportunities are comparatively low in comparison to rate of individual obtaining higher degree (above high school), rate of self-employed individuals has increased in significant manner. As financial security is not as strong as that of developed countries, self-employment sector gets affected during any unwanted circumstances which were evident during COVID-19 period as well. This paper used Human Capital Theory and Need for Achievement Theory to discuss role of gender and academic knowledge as contributing factors towards identification and adoption of coping strategies during COVID-19. With desk review and interviews with self-employed individuals, this paper strongly argues, the strategies adopted to cope with COVID-19 is more guided by enterprise type and financial backing instead of academic skill and gender.
