In this paper, a piezoelectric tube of the type typically used in scanning tunneling microscopes (STMs) and atomic force microscopes (AFMs) is considered. Actuation of this piezoelectric tube is hampered by the presence of a lightly damped low-frequency resonant mode. The resonant mode is identified and damped using a positive velocity and position feedback (PVPF) controller, a control technique proposed in this paper. Input signals are then shaped such that the closed-loop system tracks a raster pattern. Normally, piezoelectric tubes are actuated using voltage amplifiers. Nonlinearity in the form of hysteresis is observed when actuating the piezoelectric tubes at high amplitudes using voltage amplifiers. It has been known for some time that hysteresis in piezoelectric actuators can be largely compensated by actuating them using charge amplifiers. In this paper, high-amplitude actuation of a piezoelectric tube is achieved using a charge amplifier.
Interferenceless coded aperture correlation holography (I-COACH) is an incoherent digital holography technique for imaging 3D objects without two-wave interference. In I-COACH, the object beam is modulated by a pseudorandom coded phase mask (CPM) and propagates to the camera where its intensity pattern is recorded. The image of the object is reconstructed by a cross-correlation of the object intensity pattern with a point intensity response of the system, whereas the light from both the object and the point, are modulated by the same CPM. In order to recover the image of the object without bias level and background noise, multiple intensity recordings are necessary for both objects as well as the point object, which in turn significantly reduces the time resolution of imaging. In this study, a non-linear reconstruction technique is developed to reconstruct the image of the object with only a single camera shot. Furthermore, the proposed technique is adaptive to different experimental conditions in the sense of finding different optimal parameters for each experiment. The new method has been implemented on a regular I-COACH system in both transmission as well as reflection illumination modes.
The compounding of recycled polypropylene (RPP) and wood saw dust (WSD) are carried out using five different filler loadings (0,10, 20, 30, 40, and 50%) with three WSD filler sizes (100, 212, and 300 mm). The composites are mixed and extruded using Haake Rheodrive 500 twin screw extruder. The mechanical and water absorption properties of composites are characterized accordingly. The results show that composites with a smaller particle size (100 mm) have remarkably higher properties compared to others (212 and 300 mm). Composites filled up to 30% WSD exhibits improved mechanical properties but the value dramatically decreased above 30% filler loading. The evidence of fiber-matrix interphase is analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
