Digital Ecosystem (DE) is a concept emerged from the natural existence of business ecosystem, which in turn is taken from the concept of biological ecological systems. On the other hand, System of Information Systems (SoIS) are special type of System of Systems (SoS) that deals with several Information Systems producing overwhelming amount of information. In this paper we aim to define the concepts of DE, SoS, and SoIS. Then, provide the guidance for moving from Digital Ecosystem to System of Information Systems. Thus, we aim to draw the link between the model of DE presented in literature and the concept of SoS and SoIS. Then, we propose an architectural model of System of Information Systems (SoIS) and investigate the knowledge base role in such complex system operating in the environment of a Digital Ecosystem. These complex Digital Ecosystems pose a significant technical improvement in terms of information interoperability that overcomes conceptual and technical barriers. In this paper we are moving from Digital Ecosystem to System of Information Systems by defining the similarities between the two concepts, then proposing an architectural model of SoIS in correspondence to DE model.
Information Systems are viewed as a set of services creating a workflow of information directed to specific groups and members. This allows individuals to share ideas and their talents with other members. In such manner, tasks can be carried out both efficiently and effectively. Due to the nature of Information Systems that revolves around creating information useful to users, and in some higher forms of Information Systems creating knowledge, management of information and/or knowledge is part of their functionalities. In this paper we aim to study the placement of Information Systems as part of a System of Systems (SoS), as these large systems poses significant technical improvement in terms of information interoperability that overcomes conceptual and technical barriers. Therefore, we move towards defining and modeling System of Information Systems (SoIS). This paper discovers what is currently known about Information Systems and Systems of Systems, and proceeds towards suggesting an architecture of a System of Information Systems that integrates several Information Systems and allows information to be transferred at ease between those different components.
International audienceDigital ecosystem is a concept emerged from the natural existence of business ecosystem , which in turn is taken from the concept of biological ecological systems. In this paper we aim to review the literature in the field of digital ecosystem and investigate models that support the claim that collaboration systems and social media networks , to certain extent , could be considered as digital ecosystem. For this investigation we undertake a systematic mapping study to present a wide review of primary studies on digital ecosystems , collaboration systems , and social media networks. The systematic mapping is a research methodology that gives a visual summary of the results obtained from a systematic research process. This paper mapped what is currently known about digital ecosystem. The work presented in this paper aims at investigating the similarity between collaboration systems and digital ecosystems and guide efforts for future research intended to model collaboration system as a digital ecosystem. Finally , we present our own model of a collaboration system working as a digital ecosystem based on the knowledge obtained from our investigation
Abstract. One of the most important aspects when designing and constructing an Information System is its architecture. This also applies to complex systems such as System of Information Systems (SoIS). Thus, we aim to propose an architectural model of System of Information Systems (SoIS). Though Architecture-based approaches have been promoted as a means of controlling the complexity of systems construction and evolution, what we really look for in this paper is an architectural model to aggregate services from already constructed systems. Nevertheless, it would be a good practice to compare the presented architecture of SoIS to other architecture-based approaches such as Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Also, it is beneficial to examine how we can use the well-established standards of SOA for the designing of SoIS. In this paper we present an architectural model for System of Information Systems, and highlight the standards of Service Oriented Architecture that might help us in this task.
Organizations look for information coming from many heterogeneous resources, which are in turn produced by several users working on different Information Systems. Those heterogeneous resources might complement each other, hence producing useful information for the organization. Another possibility is that they might overlap or contradict, therefore producing redundant contradictory information. A common problem that faces organizations here is in the overwhelming amount of the heterogeneous resources produced, and the time required to access and manages those resources under the goal of finding useful information in them. Therefore, one of the most important aspects concerning Information Systems in organizations is the way to manage the knowledge produced from those systems. This issue becomes more significant when dealing with complex Information Systems that work in the digital environment forming the Digital Ecosystem (DE) of modern organizations. As organizations attempts to move forward in this complex Digital Ecosystem, They need to apply out-of-the-box ideas to complex systems such as System of Information Systems (SoIS). Thus, we aim to develop a solution for managing heterogeneous information in a System of Information Systems, and move forward from Digital Ecosystems to Collaborative System of Information Systems. In this paper we present our definition of a Digital Ecosystem. Also, we will detail the model of the SoIS. This model is used to construct the prototype for managing heterogeneous information in a System of Information Systems.
With the current development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), organizations deal with great amount of information coming from many systems. Identifying a resource of relevant information to a specific context becomes a real challenge. In the course of our work we are interested in recommendation of pedagogical recources within a learning ecosystem. We have chosen to model a learning ecosystem as a system of information systems (SoIS). In this SoIS we introduce a resource recommender system. This system is based on users' votes (learners, teachers), and the similarity between the description of pedagogical resources and the learners' profile. In our approach, we take into account the willingness to collaborate. Therefore, we exploit a collaboration model that supports learning ecosystem to answer the demand for questions such as, who collaborates with whom, how, when, why, on what and where, etc. The work presented in this paper is focused on at recommendation of pedagogical recources within a learning ecosystem.
Today's learners advance in an environment of fast evolving Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). These learners cannot be supported effectively by the learning strategies of the past. Knowledge is important for the progress of learners, but it is getting harder to obtain with the overwhelming amount resources produced by many Information Systems in the learning ecosystem. In order to manage the knowledge for learners we are following the approach of System of Information Systems (SoIS) as support for learning ecosystem. The SoIS gives the learning ecosystem the opportunity to explore how individual and organizational learning can be enhanced through a combination of different Information Systems in the learning ecosystem. In this context, we look into the orchestration of the SoIS that can provide the ability to index, share, and annotate important resources in the learning ecosystem. In that sense, this paper addresses the approach of System of Information Systems (SoIS) as support of learning ecosystem.
