A Cimicifuga racemosa é uma planta nativa da América do Norte que tem sido alvo de pesquisas quanto aos seus benefícios no tratamento dos sintomas do climatério, que afligem a vida de muitas mulheres após o fim da sua fase fértil e, em razão das oscilações hormonais, a mulher sofre de irritabilidade, suores noturnos, ondas de calor, secura vaginal, entre outros. O presente artigo analisou recentes publicações científicas com o objetivo de verificar a eficácia desta planta e sua aplicação terapêutica. A revisão bibliográfica mostrou a relevância da pesquisa sobre esse tema, a importância de tratamentos alternativos para a terapia de reposição hormonal, sendo que os estudos evidenciaram que a cimicífuga mostra-se como uma boa opção para o alívio dos sintomas, com maior uso por mulheres contra-indicadas para a Terapia de Reposição Hormonal. Apesar dos estudos clínicos e pré-clínicos realizados, não foi encontrado uma elucidação sobre o exato mecanismo de ação desta planta. Palavras-chave: Cimicifuga racemosa. Climatério. Black cohosh.
