O n e -P o t R e d u c t i v e A l k y l a t i o n o f P r i m a r y a n d S e c o n d a r y A m i n e s Abstract: A simple and convenient procedure for the reductive alkylation of primary and secondary amines and N,N-dimethylation of amino acids is described using sodium borohydride as a reducing agent in 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol without use of a catalyst or any other additive. The solvent can be readily recovered from reaction products in excellent purity for direct reuse.
A simple and efficient method for the coupling of aryl iodides with aliphatic alcohols and phenols that does not require the use of alkoxide bases is described. This C-O bond forming procedure shows that the combination of air stable CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline in the presence of KF/Al 2 O 3 comprises an extremely efficient and general catalyst system for the etherification of aryl iodides. Different functionalized aryl iodides were coupled with alcohols and phenols using this method.
