IntroductionObesity is one of the most common nutrition-related disorders worldwide and one of the major health problems in menopausal women, which significantly worsens the quality of life and can lead to severe diseases or even premature death. The aim of the study was to evaluate the relation between physical activity in different domains undertaken by menopausal women while performing daily activities and their body mass index (BMI).Material and methodsThe study was conducted on a random sample of 400 healthy Polish women aged 45-55. The questionnaire contained questions concerning the respondents’ socio-economic status, medical history and the long format of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire was used.ResultsFifty-one percent (50.6%) of women had normal body mass, 43.75% of respondents were overweighed and 5.65% of women were obese. A moderate physical activity level was presented by most midlife women in domestic and garden domain, active transportation and leisure time. Pearson's correlation showed that such factors as age, education and physical activity level in different domains have a significant correlation with BMI.ConclusionsMost respondents presented a moderate physical activity level in all domains except work, where the respondents had a high physical activity (PA) level. A high PA level especially at work (r = –0.5788) and during leisure time (r = –0.5175) strongly correlate with lower BMI.
Microcirculation is an element of the circulatory system between the arterial and vascular system. W pierwszej podgrupie znalazły się osoby leczone z powodu chorób naczyń obwodowych w zakresie tętniczym i żylnym kończyn dolnych, odpowiednio 4 i 12 osób, a w drugiej osoby zdrowe (14 osób). Abstract:One of the basic diagnostic methods of evaluating the microcirculation vessels is the Laser-Doppler examination which makes it possible to determine the dynamics of the fl ow and to evaluate the level of blood supply. Among the newest methods of adjunct treatment for various diseases is energotonic therapy which is a modern therapy based on researches carried out in various fi elds of science: medicine, physics, mathematics, physiology, biochemistry and other. Due to such a wide range of research fi elds the high tone power therapy may be said to be an interdisciplinary phenomenon. The aim of the research was to evaluate the effects of the high tone power therapy on peripheral microcirculation in the lower limbs. Material and Methods: the research group consisted of 30 people aged from 20 to 60 which was divided into two subgroups. The fi rst subgroup included 16 people treated for peripheral vascular disease in the area of arteries and veins of the lower limbs -4 and 12 people respectively -and the second subgroup included 14 healthy people. The aim of this study was to examine the relation between increased physical activity and menstrual disorders in adolescent female volleyball players. The study was conducted on 210 Polish female volleyball players, aged 13-17 years, the authorship questionnaire was used. The results of the study showed that irregular menstruation occurred in 19% of girls, spotting between menstrual periods in 27% and heavy menstruation was reported in 33% of girls. Out of all volleyball female players participating in the study, 94 girls (45%) declared absence of menstrual periods after regular cycles. Statistical analysis showed that the more training hours per week, the bigger probability of the occurrence of irregular menstruation. It was concluded that the number of hours of volleyball training per week affects regularity of menstrual cycles in female volleyball players. The absence of menstruation might be caused by the duration of training per week or years of training.
Otyłość częściej występuje u kobiet niż u mężczyzn i niesie za sobą konsekwencje psychologiczne, pogarszając w znacznym stopniu jakość życia psychicznego, fizycznego i seksualnego kobiet w okresie okołoklimakterycznym. Materiał i metody: W badaniu wzięło udział 136 kobiet w przedziale wiekowym 45-65 lat z województwa śląskiego. Średni wiek kobiet wynosił 57,35 ±6,18 roku. Do analizy składu ciała zastosowano nieinwazyjną, wiarygodną oraz bezpieczną metodę bioimpedancji elektrycznej (bioelectrical impedance analysis -BIA).Wyniki: Prawidłową masę ciała miało 39,71% kobiet, nadwagę 36,76%, a otyłość występowała u 23,53%. Procent tkanki tłuszczowej rósł wraz z wiekiem. Najniższy procent tkanki tłuszczowej odnotowano w grupie kobiet w wieku 45-50 lat (32,15%), nieco wyższy w grupie 51-60 lat (32,28%), a najwyższy u kobiet w wieku 61-65 lat (35,5%), (p = 0,028).Wnioski: Edukacja i promocja zdrowego stylu życia jest konieczna, aby zmniejszyć problem nadwagi i otyłości kobiet w klimakterium. Wzrost masy ciała kobiet w okresie okołomenopauzalnym związany jest głównie z przyrostem tkanki tłuszczowej.Słowa kluczowe: menopauza, impedancja, nadwaga, otyłość, aktywność fizyczna. SummaryIntroduction: Increased body mass is one of the biggest health problems among women aged 55-65. Obesity has been implicated as one of the major risk factors for coronary heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. Moreover, obesity can contribute to incontinence and musculoskeletal diseases, in particular osteoarthritis. This problem occurs more often in women than in men, therefore the health-related quality of life in menopausal women remains significantly lower in all physical, mental and sexual domains.
