The aim of this article is to present the history and the current state of Bryjarka hill, situated in Szczawnica (the Beskid Sądecki range in southern Poland) in relation to its environmental and cultural values. Another aim of this article is to show that Bryjarka hill plays an important role in the biological, geological and cultural aspects of the region. It represents cultural significance where the traces of human activities date back to medieval times.
A new archaeological site was discovered accidentally in year 2018. A surface survey revealed stone artefacts, which were generally dated to the Late Palaeolithic. Later, archaeological sondages were opened and newly found stone artifacts proved earliest dating. Furthermore, it was confirmed that local radiolarites were exploited by Late Palaeolithic societies.
The town of Szczawnica, situated on the border of the Beskid Sądecki and the Pieniny Mountains, became a health resort at the beginning of the 19th century. It was connected with the influx of curative tourists and outflow of products obtained in the health resort, e.g. mineral water. This article is an attempt to show the condition of road and water transport on the section Krościenko nad Dunajcem-Szczawnica and its impact on selected aspects of functioning of the health resorts.
