Effect of Shielding Gas, Work and Travel Angles on Fillet Weld Characteristics Obtained by GMAW on a High Resistance Microalloyed SteelAbstract: The fillet joint is one of the most used in several industries, particularly in the agricultural machinery. However, many times, the complexity of the parts to be joined difficult welder accessibility, therefore working and travel angles are important variables to analyze. Furthermore, in GMAW process, employing shielding gas mixture Ar-20%CO 2 has increased at expense of 100%CO 2 , requiring in general electrical parameters adjustment. In addition, incorporating new higher strength materials also requires optimizing the welding procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two shielding gases (Ar-20%CO 2 and 100%CO 2 ), three work angles (30, 45 and 60°) and two travel angles (45° for push welding and 60° for drag welding) on the dimensional aspects and mechanical properties of joints, obtained by GMAW on a microalloyed high strength steel. The highest levels of penetration corresponded to the samples welded ...

Influence of Heat Input and Filler Metal on Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Microalloyed High Strength Steel Welded by FCAWAbstract: Currently, microalloyed high strength steels are being widely used to replace C and C-Mn steels for their advantages in terms of mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and weldability, allowing weight reduction of vehicles and structures without impairing their strength. When these steels are welded, the welding heat cycle causes microstructural changes that alter their original properties. The heat input (HI: heat input) is one of the main variables to consider when these modifications are evaluated. The final properties of the welded joint are also defined by the type of consumable used. The aim of this paper is to analyze the mechanical properties and microstructure of a butt welded microalloyed steel with two filler metal grades and different HI. A considerable increase grain size in the heat affected coarse grain zone, especially for high HI; and a softening in fine grain zone were observed. The values of tensile strength at both welding consumables remained basically unaltered, with better performance when welded with low HI. The toughness in the HAZ was improved when the HI decreased.
Lately several variants of these materials have been developed through the addition of B, W and Co, among others. Due to the fact that information on influence of welding procedure on the welded joint is scarce, the objective of this work was to study the behavior of both the base metal and the weld metal of circumferential weldments performed using semiautomatic welding process under gas mixture protection. Two FCAW rutilic slag wires, alloyed with 9Cr1Mo and 9Cr0.5Mo1W1Co respectively, were used under Ar/20%CO 2 gas shielding. Post weld heat treatments of 4 and 2 hours have been carried out. The microstructure was analyzed in the different zones: weld metal, heat affected (coarse and fine grain, intercritical and subcritical) and not affected base metal. Chemical composition of the weld metal, transversal tensile properties of the joint and microhardness along the weld transversal section were determined. In all cases it was obtained maximum hardness values in the weld metal and a decrease in this property in the heat affected zone from the coarse grain zone to the base metal one. The minimal hardness values were achieved in the intercritical zone, lower than those of the metal base. Hardness and tensi...
