España se ha convertido en uno de los países del mundo con mayor número de familias adoptantes. Los especialistas en adopción internacional muestran que estos niños tienen factores de riesgo psicológicos y físicos. A partir de los avances teórico-prácticos, el presente artículo analiza algunos de los riesgos y factores protectores de los niños y sus familias, a partir de los cuales se proponen los elementos básicos de la intervención con las familias y en las escuelas como los dos contextos más importantes para el ajuste adecuado del niño que proviene de adopción internacional. Para finalizar, se considera la importancia de que todas las familias adoptivas sean objeto de un seguimiento de forma preventiva, tras el proceso de adopción, que permita valorar cómo se están adaptando y cuáles pueden ser las necesidades de apoyo que garanticen su ajuste.Palabras-clave: Inclusión educativa, adopción internacional, factores de riesgo y factores de protección, ajuste de las familias adoptivas, intervención familiar, necesidades educativas especiales e intervención psicoeducativa.
