Lumineszenz‐ und Lumineszenzanregungsspektren sowie Lumineszenzabklingzeiten von CuJ · Pyridin wurden zwischen 300 K und 15 K gemessen. Bei Anregung zwischen 26 000 und 29 000 cm−1 beginnt die gelbe Zimmertemperaturlumineszenz (ṽmax = 17 000 cm−1) unterhalb von 120 K zugunsten einer schwach strukturierten blauen Bande (ṽmax = 22900 cm−1) zu verschwinden. Die Umwandlung ist bei etwa 50 K abgeschlossen. Bei Anregung über 29 000 cm−1 bleibt die gelbe Bande neben der blauen auch noch bei 15 K erhalten. Die blaue Lumineszenz mit einer Abklingzeit von etwa 3 · 10−5 sec wird der π* → π‐Phosphoreszenz des komplex an Cu(I) gebundenen Pyridins zugeordnet. Es wird ein kinetisches Modell aufgestellt, das die Farbänderung der Lumineszenz auf eine Energieübertragung zwischen zwei Termsystemen in CuJ · Py zurückführt. Der Übertragungsprozeß benötigt eine Aktivierungsenergie von 9,9 kJ/mol.
