Intravitreal TA may play a role in the treatment of uveitis-related CME. Further controlled studies are necessary to test this hypothesis.

We noted improvement or maintenance of visual acuity (86%) during the course of follow-up of patients with treatment-resistant JIA-associated uveitis treated with effective IMT. However, only IMT given early in the disease course was noted to be associated with bilateral visual acuity of 20/30 or better.

Immunomodulatory therapy is an effective treatment for severe HLA-B27 uveitis that fails to respond to conventional steroid treatment, regardless of the timing of its initiation. However, introduction of IMT within 3 years of the disease onset prevents the adverse effects of steroids (cataract, glaucoma) and reduces the likelihood of repeated recurrences of the uveitis.
