Summary Periodontopathy in the dog due to lack of calcium and excess of phosphorus in the diet In young dogs (6–18 months) in a kennels a form of periodontopathy due to lack of Ca and excess of P occurred over a period of several years. The clinical, radiological and biochemical findings are described. Retraction of the gums due to narrowing of the interalveolar ridge and thinning of the lamina dura dentes up to its complete disappearance were observed. The daily Ca intake was less than 200 mg., while that of P was more than 3,000 mg. Blood examination showed phosphatase 6–22 B. U., Ca 11.4–13.5 mg./100 ml., P 9–12 mg./100 ml. and urea 48–68 mg./100 ml. After addition of 2 g. Ca daily per dog the condition disappeared.
