Critical data are not available regarding the frequency of insemination of individual female Acdes aegypti. Males may inseminate as many as 6 or more females (Roth, 1948;Jones and Wheeler, 1965), and various authors have noted that females may mate several times. Subsequent matings, however, are of shorter duration than the first (Spielman, 1964). In a brief abstract, Vandehey and Craig (1958) indicated that multiple insemination may occasionally occur in caged populations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
