Preliminary work on anodizing zinc in a variety of alkaline solutions led to some smooth white or gray films. A detailed study was made of the anodic oxidation of zinc and zinc alloys in one electrolyte the results of which suggest similarities but also some differences between anodic films on aluminum and on zinc. Autoclaving in silicate solutions improved the resistance to corrosion and abrasion and changed the chemical composition of the anodic films without altering their appearance greatly.
Estimation of potassium in the test solution, by the improved method, gave results as stated below:Potassium (as platinic chloride) found in 10 cc. solution. .
The Oleoresin varies widely in amount but its composition is fairly uniform, the volatile oils comprising approximately 20 per cent of the crude gum, and colophony or rosin making up the remaining 80 per cent. The volatile oils or " crude turps" yield from 60 to 80 per cent of actual turpentine and from 40 to 20 per cent of heavier oils, known collectively as "pine oil." As it exists in the wood, the turpentine consists mainly of terpenes of the formula C TO H T6, chiefly a-pinene with smaller amounts of b-pinene, dipentene, camphene, and traces of other oils.
In the design of an experimental apparatus for cracking oil in accordance with the theory set forth in This Journal, 6, 383, it is necessary to provide accurate control over the three variables: temperature, pressure, and concentration.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
