The study is dedicated to the issues of media reception of Ukraine by British quality newspapers, that largely determines the nature of intergovernmental cooperation and the geopolitical priorities of the European community in the Ukrainian issue as a whole. This issue can be solved by pointing out the most frequent heterostereotypes, identifying their formal content features and operating contexts in the text space of the media.The new concept that is called the «Stereotype of the Transition Period» has been updated, which, on one hand, indicates the specifics of the object of stereotyping, and on the other hand, motivates the receptive features of the subjects of stereotyping, which are the British articles in our study. The investigation of heterostereotyping of Ukraine was carried out by using the programmatic content analysis AntConc 3.5.0 (Windows), which can be characterized by the signs of validity, objectivity and reliability. The most frequent heterostereotypes formed by the process of combining of the ethnonym "Ukraine" with occasionally relevant concepts are revealed, and their semantic fields are analyzed.It is stated that conflict-related issues are mostly chosen by British quality newspapers to cover the Ukrainian theme. It becomes a discursive background for representing Ukrainian society as polarized, split according to geographical, cultural, linguistic and ideological parameters. Ukraine is presented as a state with the divided identity. Among the heterosterotypical images, the militarized image of our state dominates. Among the frequent contexts of ethnonym, the contexts of war, political crisis and environmental catastrophe are outlined.It is revealed that in the materials on Ukrainian subjects, the concept «Russia» dominates over the concept of "Ukraine". It is pointed out that the British media legitimize certain institutions and phenomena that are tabooed in the Ukrainian media-discourse practices.The results obtained have a theoretical significance for «Social Communications» field and can be used in technological developments to create and correct the image of Ukraine.
The new era of the 21st century is characterized by the rapid pace of digitalization of society and the development of information and communication technologies (ICTs). ICTs are transforming the basics of educational activities from the physical environment to the virtual one. There is a similarity between technology and media in content and strategic context. The media actively influence the public opinion, and information and communication technologies are used to increase the impact on academic performance. Therefore, there is a need for a critical analysis of information reality in order to develop the competence in future generation. The article provides the study of the process of development of innovative media education styles, which are effective in educational activities for the formation of a competent future generation capable of critical analysis of the information. The study of the formation of innovative media education styles was based on the Synyavsky’s communicative and organizational skills measurement methods in order to diagnose the main aspects of educational activities in the innovative context, Milman’s personal motivation technique, survey to determine the competency criterion of media education. A pedagogical experiment was conducted as part of the study. The results of the study became the ground for determining the content of innovative media education styles as an alternative to modern forms of education. Innovative media education styles are formed due to the influence of ICTs on educational activities. The obtained data were processed in SPSS 18.0.1.
The study presents the results of content monitoring of the European press on the subject of alternative energy. The data collected from the current newspaper articles and selected by keywords “alternative energy sources”, “diversification of energy sources”, “energy transition” and “energy markets” are summarised. Trends, problems and prospects of energy transition are revealed. Both pan-European trends and the dynamics of transition in specific countries (Germany, France and Great Britain) are presented. It is noted that the triangle of sustainable development, which is “economy — ecology — society”, needs a powerful media component to ensure public discussion and social approval of the latest energy technologies. It has been proved that the energy turn provides sufficient information support for society to adapt to alternative energy sources and allows key actors to make informed policy decisions. The role of solutions journalism in the implementation of sustainable development goals, including the transition of the society to renewable energy, is pointed out. It is noted that solutions journalism, as a new direction of media activity, corresponds to the interpretive contextual function of journalism, which provides coverage of productive precedents for solving social problems in different countries. The role of the media in popularisation of such precedents is shown. The tools of solutions journalism used in the European countries are indicated, namely engaging the expert community, providing positive forecasts, appealing to the productive experience of other countries, covering the political side of the issue and opportunities for savings through the transition to alternative energy sources, and promotion of green technologies.
In the article a competency-based approach to journalism education in the context of journalism transformation is presented. Digitization of the media industry, convergence of the functions and tasks in the field of communicative professions, intensification of media influences and media effects caused the need for journalism education revision. The appeal to competency as a basic term of the theory of education made it possible to update that set of knowledge, skills, professional qualities and values that make up the basic model of the journalistic profession. According to Z. Weischenberg’s classical model, journalism competency as a target function of journalism education has complex architectonics and integrates four components: professional competence, communication competence, special / industrial knowledge and social orientation. Each of the core competencies is transformed under the influence of new conditions of the profession realization, their relative importance changes. Thus, instrumental skills are changing under the influence of participatory journalism models. Participatory journalism requires a completely different content production algorithm. It requires the skills of information verification, interaction with amateur contributors and officials, involved in the process of solution of problems of different scales and directions, communication with an active audience, which is driven by an increased feedback factor in communication. At the same time, the knowledge segment of journalism competency becomes more important in connection with the emergence of a whole block of media-oriented disciplines: media psychology, media economics, media law, etc. The analytical component of the journalistic profession, caused by new information inquiries and the needs of the society, is increasing. The need for media marketing knowledge, which is gaining new sense and guidance as a result of the transition of the media to the digital platform, is being updated. Proactive competencies that allow journalists to continuously adapt to changes in the media industry also become a significant component of the competency model.
