Female sheep were used to assay antihaemophilic (factor VIII enhancing) activity of arginine vasopressin, deamino(D-arginine8)-vasopressin (DDAVP) and adrenaline. The time course of the response was biphasic, two surges of factor VIII being observed. DDAVP was found to be the most potent of the substances investigated. Its optimal dose was lpgkg-' body wt (i.v.). It is suggested that a similar procedure can be employed to search for new peptides with antihaemophilic action.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
