Anomalías dentales y su relación con la malnutrición en la primera infancia: un análisis crítico de literatura. El estado nutricional de la población, específicamente en la primera infancia, es un indicador de su calidad de vida, en cuanto refleja el desarrollo físico, intelectual y emocional de los individuos, íntimamente relacionados con su estado de salud y con factores alimentarios, socioeconómicos, ambientales y culturales, entre otros; por tanto, el estado nutricional juega un papel importante en el estado de la salud bucal. Por el contrario, la malnutrición, definida como cualquier alteración del estado nutricional, es decir, tanto las situaciones de alteración por exceso (sobrepeso y obesidad) como por defecto (desnutrición), puede afectar el desarrollo de las estructuras bucales si se presenta a edad temprana. Debido a esto, se consideró importante conocer cuáles pueden ser los efectos de la malnutrición en la salud bucal y sus posibles manifestaciones clínicas, intra y extra bucales, en los niños con desnutrición. El objetivo de este estudio fue establecer la presencia de las anomalías dentales, posiblemente asociadas con la malnutrición infantil, mediante un análisis crítico de la literatura, con base en publicaciones de artículos originales en revistas indexadas nacionales e internacionales, correspondientes al periodo 2000-2012.Palabras clave: desnutrición, malformaciones dentales, malnutrición, maloclusión, revisión de la literatura.
El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la funcionalidad reproductiva de toros del alto magdalena analizando el efecto de la edad y la raza sobre la calidad del semen y otras características reproductivas. La investigación se realizó en los municipios de Paicol, La Plata y Nátaga (Huila - Colombia), cubriendo zonas de bosque seco tropical (bs-T) y bosque húmedo premontano (bh-PM). 60 toros de diferentes razas y edades fueron evaluados bajo condiciones de monta natural y sin reposo sexual previo al examen, usando la metodología recomendada por la American Society of Therigenology (AST). Para evaluar el efecto del tipo racial sobre algunas características reproductivas se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar con tres tratamientos y diferentes número de repeticiones por tratamiento: T1: Bos indicus , T2: Bos indicus x Bos taurus y T3: Bos taurus . El efecto de la edad fue determinado estableciendo un diseño con siete tratamientos y diferente número de repeticiones por tratamientoí: T1: < 24, T2: 24.1 - 30, T3: 30.1 - 36, T4: 36.1 - 42, T5: 42.1 - 48, T6: 48.1 - 54 y T7: > 54 meses de edad. Se aplicó la prueba Diferencia Mínima Significativa para determinar las diferencias estadísticas y se estableció un modelo de predicción para movilidad masal . El comportamiento reproductivo expresado en calidad del material seminal, libido y demás características reproductivas en los toros del alto magdalena, estuvo dentro de los valores normales. El tipo racial no tuvo un efecto significativo sobre las características reproductivas. Con excepción de la circunferencia escrotal y el volumen del eyaculado, la edad tampoco ejerció un efecto sobre las variables analizadas. El modelo de predicción para la movilidad masal (Y), a partir de un valor dado de circunferencia escrotal (X) es: Y = (1.90275) (X).
El propósito de esta investigación es comparar las manifestaciones afectivas en sus dimensiones positivas y negativas, a modo de rasgo y de estado, con variables ginecobstétricas y de funcionamiento familiar en mujeres gestantes. Se seleccionaron a conveniencia 229 mujeres que ingresaron a una institución prestadora de servicios de salud en Medellín. Se utilizaron los cuestionarios PANAS (Robles & Páez, 2003), APGAR-familiar (Smilkstein, 1978) y una encuesta de variables sociodemográficas. Se encontró que las gestantes con mayor rasgo afectivo positivo presentan menor riesgo obstétrico, mientras que las mujeres con mayor rasgo afectivo negativo demuestran menor planeación del embarazo y mayor percepción de disfunción familiar. Se concluye que la percepción de apoyo familiar y los rasgos emocionales positivos son componentes que favorecen la salud gestacional, mientras que el afecto negativo es un obstáculo para la adaptación a la maternidad y las relaciones familiares percibidas.
En este trabajo se hizo el análisis morfológico y molecular a 28 caracoles terrestres de Megalobulimus oblongus, colectados en diferentes departamentos de Colombia, depositados en una colección de referencia. Para la caracterización morfológica, los animales se disecaron al estéreomicroscopio. Se describieron el sistema reproductor y la concha. Del sistema reproductor se tomaron medidas a las estructuras que lo componen. De la concha se describió la forma, el color, el número de espiras y la ornamentación e igualmente se tomaron medidas básicas usando un calibrador digital. Para el análisis molecular se usaron dos marcadores mitocondriales, el 16S rRNA y el gen Citocromo Oxidasa C subunidad I (COI). Ambos marcadores confirmaron la presencia de un único haplotipo en los ejemplares, aun para individuos situados en regiones biogeográficas diferentes y distantes. Este estudio sugiere que en Colombia M. oblongus se encuentra en peligro, por lo que urgen investigaciones sobre reproducción, genética poblacional y biogeografía que esclarezcan su situación en el país. Demuestra además que las colecciones de referencia y los bancos de tejidos son fuentes de información de gran valor, ya que permiten conocer aspectos relacionados con el riesgo en que se encuentran las especies y que sirven de insumo para el diseño de acciones de conservación.
