As is known, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way of teaching and learning. In learning listening skills, many teachers or lecturers use social media such as YouTube. This study discusses the exercises that can develop listening skills teaching materials obtained from audiobooks (Hoerbuch-Deutsch) on YouTube. The title of the fairy tale of the audio text in the audiobook is Rotkaeppchen. Some exercises can be given to students before, during, and after listening. The six forms of exercise being tested are: Associograms, Discussion of the topic, Multiple-choice, True or false, W-questions about the text, which statements are factual? To find out students' interest in the six forms of exercise given, students were given a questionnaire. The questionnaire was filled out by 37 fourth-semester students of the German Literatur Study Program at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The questionnaire results showed that the students' very high interest was in the forms of exercise: Associograms (67%), Discussion of the topic (52%), and Which statements are true? (73%). Meanwhile, the exercises that make students uninterested are Multiple-choice (22%), True or false (45%), and W-question about the text (19%). The data of this research are the words and sentences that were heard from the audiobook. This descriptive qualitative research explains that the six exercises can be used in learning listening skills. The contribution of this research helps lecturers to use types of listening skills exercises based on the of Hoerbuch-Deutsch on Youtube.
The purpose of teaching a foreign language is to help students in improving their skill in oral and written communication. One of language skills that needs to be improved is reading skill. In German Literature study program, reading skill is gained in Lesen course. Lesen 1 course is a basic skill course for German Literature students in Universitas Negeri Surabaya, and it is compulsory to be taken by the students in their first semester of their study. This study is qualitative, which involved college students in German literature study program. For collecting the data, German literature texts are used. In results, the material development which used literature-based guides and helps the students to be better according to the German literature competency. Those texts help the students to improve their reading skill, grammatical skill, cultural understanding, and even their imagination. A good and appropriate literary text for Lesen 1 course is the one with a simple and basic structure such as Praesens, Perfekt, and Praeterium. If there is a text that is too complicated, then it needs to be simplified first to adjust the students' ability.
Islamophobic and Antisemitism have become trending topics in Germany nowadays. The rise of Muslims population in Germany during migration crisis that cause pro and contra in society can be the main cause of the Islamophobic in the country lead by Angela Merkel. On the other side, there is another phenomenon called anti-S emitism that has historically occurred since Nazi's era. Currently, this phenomenon suddenly rises up during migration crisis and it has been strongly discussed after the controversy created by duo rappers Kollegah (Felix Blume) and Farid Bang (Farid El Abdellaoui) who took home the prize for their anti-semitism songs in album Jung, Brutal, Gutaussehend 3. Pros and cons appear and they become trending topic in German online newspaper along with the islamophobia that's still debatable. Even though these two phenomena have one similiarity, namely 'anxiety feeling or extreme fear of something', there are different strategies used by the Press in Germany. Crictical analysis is neede d to reveal specific strategies applied and the impact of the kind of strategies on the representation of Muslims and Jews in Germany. Based on critical discourse studies, it can be concluded that the German online newspaper defines Islam as outer group who creates islamophobic. But, Jews are represented differently as a victim of anti-S emitism.
