In many places in reality, agricultural's graduate works in a bank, a graduate majoring in economics became a journalist, and a law graduate into a credit analyst; this fact leads us to the question of what causes a gap between the world of higher education and the labor market. In other words, rapid changes in the working world as a result of globalization and revolution in the field of information technology, and science, have demanded anticipation and evaluation of the competencies needed by the world of work. Therefore, evaluation is also important so that there is no gap between the education world, specifically higher education world, the working world and the society's needs. Higher education as part of the national education system has a strategic role in educating the life of the nation and improving its competitiveness in facing globalization in all fields. Hence, there is curriculum in university that has to meet this new challenge. It must always be ensured that universities have relevance curriculum which are periodically updated in accordance with the current state. In this context Ministry of research, Technology, and Higher Education has stated that tracer study is a significant step to address this new challenge.
The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected education at all levels. Higher education institutions and educators must change their educational activities in response to COVID-19. Consequently, teaching delivery models have had to shift from a traditional classroom to an entirely virtual one. During the virtual period, institutions and educators experienced challenges and difficulties. However, they also had an opportunity to rethink their roles, which triggered innovation and a new learning environment for future education. One hundred and sixteen students in an Indonesian state university participated in this present study aiming to investigating the immediate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on academic and non-academic services. The data were gained from questionnaires using Google forms. The results indicated that the most effected of academic services variable was lecture process. Meanwhile, the non-academic services variable that most effected were facilities and infrastructure, and second was student activities. The challenges and expectations during the pandemic become the investment in rethinking the institution's roles in preparing the future education. In other words, many lessons learnt during distance education are useful for higher education institutions to increase familiarity of lecturers, students, and staff with distance education.
Islamophobic and Antisemitism have become trending topics in Germany nowadays. The rise of Muslims population in Germany during migration crisis that cause pro and contra in society can be the main cause of the Islamophobic in the country lead by Angela Merkel. On the other side, there is another phenomenon called anti-S emitism that has historically occurred since Nazi's era. Currently, this phenomenon suddenly rises up during migration crisis and it has been strongly discussed after the controversy created by duo rappers Kollegah (Felix Blume) and Farid Bang (Farid El Abdellaoui) who took home the prize for their anti-semitism songs in album Jung, Brutal, Gutaussehend 3. Pros and cons appear and they become trending topic in German online newspaper along with the islamophobia that's still debatable. Even though these two phenomena have one similiarity, namely 'anxiety feeling or extreme fear of something', there are different strategies used by the Press in Germany. Crictical analysis is neede d to reveal specific strategies applied and the impact of the kind of strategies on the representation of Muslims and Jews in Germany. Based on critical discourse studies, it can be concluded that the German online newspaper defines Islam as outer group who creates islamophobic. But, Jews are represented differently as a victim of anti-S emitism.
Thinking is an innate human beings capacity that can be developed through learning process. Therefore there is specific purpose on learning that has to be achieved namely gradually developing thinking skills, specifically critical thinking skills. As one aspect that has to be mastered before High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), critical thinking skills have recently emerged as a new focus in education research. In consequence these skills have to be integrated in the classroom, not least in the foreign language classroom. Classroom research has been conducted in the class Lesen II (Reading II) to enhance student's critical thinking skills using problem-based learning. Reading involves specific thinking process to gain comprehensive understanding. The data were collected through observations, interviews, and document. The findings suggest that the development of critical thinking skills using problem-based learning in the Lesen II classroom can be performed into two stages, i.e a) pointing controversial issues and (ii) active learning through discussion and debate. This study confirms that problem-based learning is an effective alternative to develop university student's critical thinking skills in German as foreign language classroom, in the subject Lesen II.
