Nosocomial infections of the urinary tract are the most common nosocomial infections. Infectious diseases currently pose a life threatening due to the increasing phenomenon of infectious agent resistance. One of the factors known to cause resistance to broad-spectrum antimicrobials agent is the susceptibility to biofilm formation. The use of silver nanoparticles (NPs) is now regarded as one of the most promising strategies to target infections associated with biofilms. This study aims to determine the application of nanotechnology in the form of metal nanoparticles in targeting the formation of biofilms on infectious agents. The antibacterial and antibiofilm activity test was performed on a 96-well microtiter plate on uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) at concentrations of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 ppm. The results showed the addition of silver and gold nanoparticles at different concentrations affected and inhibited the growth of UPEC and prevented the formation of biofilms, as indicated by a decrease in the OD value. In conclusion, silver and gold nanoparticles have antibacterial and antibiofilm effects on UPEC.
Background and Objective — Tempe (fermented soybean) has the potential as an affordable nutritional support alternative during tuberculosis (TB) infection. The purpose of the study was to assess the efficacy of supplementation with the ethanolic extract of Tempe on the oxidative stress markers alleviation and histological changes in male Wistar rats infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Material and Methods — Thirty-five male Wistar rats were divided randomly into five groups and infected by Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain H37RV intratracheally. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and Thiobarbituric Acid Reaction (TBARS) levels were assessed using a colorimetric method while C-reactive protein (CRP) was measured by Elisa method. The lung damage was scored using histopathological parameters. Results — There were no significant differences in the TBARS levels and CRP concentrations compared to control. Tempe extract increased the TAC level at 200 (p=0.011), 400 (p=0.027), and 800 (p=0.029) kg/body weight concentrations compared to control. Perivasculitis and alveolitis mean scores were lower (p<0.05) than control in all supplement groups. Additionally, the mean scores of peribronchiolitis among supplementation groups were decreased (p<0.05) in the 200 and 800 mg/kg body weight, while the granuloma mean score was lower in the 800 mg/kg body weight compared to control. Conclusions — Tempe extract may have a weak efficacy in improving the antioxidant capacity and lung histological condition in TB rat models.
Tidak Menular (PTM) yang sangat dipengaruhi oleh perubahan lingkungan, perilaku masyarakat, transisi demografi, teknologi, ekonomi dan sosial budaya. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut Program Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) semakin digencarkan oleh pemerintah, yang hendaknya melibatkan seluruh elemen masyarakat, pemangku kepentingan, swasta, akademisi, LSM dan sektor-sektor lainnya. Peran anak muda sangat dibutuhkan oleh pemerintah dalam proses pembangunan berkelanjutan atau Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat khususnya anggota Posyandu Remaja Mojo Gubeng Surabaya tentang pentingnya perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat. Kegiatan pengabdian ini terlaksana pada hari Sabtu tanggal 11 September 2021, dihadiri oleh 26 peserta. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini yang dipilih berupa seminar daring (webinar) demi mendukung pemerintah dalam penanganan COVID-19 dengan pemberlakukan PPKM Darurat. Pengukuran peningkatan pengetahuan peserta dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post test dengan menjawab pertanyaan terkait materi webinar dengan pengisian Google Form. Hasil pengukuran didapatkan nilai pre-test rata-rata (62,5±14) sedangkan nilai post-test rata-rata (82,1±18) dengan nilai delta (perubahan score) sebesar 18,6. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat melalui Webinar dengan judul “Pentingnya Perilaku Hidup Sehat pada Posyandu Remaja Mojo Gubeng Surabaya” dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat di Posyandu Remaja Mojo Surabaya.
Pendahuluan: Karies gigi merupakan penyakit gigi dan mulut yang paling sering terjadi di Indonesia oleh karena beberapa faktor seperti sikap dan perilaku masyarakat yang kurang menjaga kesehatan gigi dan mulut. Kebersihan gigi dan mulut ini dapat dilakukan individu dengan cara menggosok gigi. Tujuan Penelitian: untuk mengetahui hubungan tingkat pengetahuan siswa tentang kesehatan gigi dengan kejadian karies gigi pada siswa Sekolah Dasar Dukuh Kupang Surabaya. Bahan dan Metode: Dari keseluruhan siswa kelas IV dan V yaitu sebanyak 106 orang SDN Dukuh Kupang Surabaya diambil sampel sebanyak 52 siswa. Tingkat pengetahuan diambil dari kuesioner dengan kategori baik, sedang, dan rendah, sedangkan kejadian karies diukur dengan DMF-T Indeks dengan kategori tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Analisis data menggunakan metode uji korelasi Spearman. Hasil: Pada penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai Sig.=0,001 (<0,05), dimana dari 100% siswa dengan pengetahuan kesehatan yang kurang diketahui sebanyak 80% memiliki status karies gigi yang tinggi, sedangkan dari 100% siswa dengan pengetahuan gigi yang baik diketahui sebanyak 83,3% siswa berstatus karies yang rendah. Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan tingkat pengetahuan kesehatan gigi dengan kejadian karies gigi pada siswa Sekolah Dasar Dukuh Kupang Surabaya.
Çalışma, Mycobacterium tuberculosis enfeksiyonundan sonra erkek Wistar sıçanları arasında proinflamatuar sitokinler üzerinde etanolik ekstrakt tempeh sağlanmasının etkinliğini değerlendirmeyi amaçladı. Randomize, test sonrası kontrollü bir tasarım, tüberkülozla enfekte olmuş sıçanları kullandı. Birinci, ikinci ve üçüncü gruplar, sırasıyla 200, 400 ve 800 mg/kg vücut ağırlığı konsantrasyonlarında ekstrakt tempeh takviyesi aldı. Dördüncü grup, kontrol grubu olarak Karboksimetil Selüloz Sodyum aldı ve beşinci gruptaki sıçanlar, histopatoloji analizleri kullanılarak TB varlığını doğrulamak için kurban edilecekti. Tümör nekroz faktörü-alfa (TNF a), interferon gama (INF ɣ) ve interlökin (IL)-2, IL-6, IL-10 ve IL-12, enzime bağlı immünosorbent deney yöntemiyle ölçüldü. Kontrol grubu ile karşılaştırıldığında tüm konsantrasyonlarda TNF a, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10 ve IL-2 seviyelerinde önemli farklılıklar yoktu. 800 mg/kg vücut ağırlığı takviyesi konsantrasyonunda, IFN-ɣ seviyesi kontrolden önemli ölçüde düşüktü (p = 0.0047). Etanolik tempeh özütünün takviyesi, pozitif bir etki göstermedi ve hayvan tüberküloz modelinde proinflamatuar sitokinler üzerinde zayıf etkinlik tanımladı.
