OBJETIVO: Analisar os efeitos da técnica de relaxamento progressivo na redução/controle dos níveis de cortisol sanguíneo em nadadores durante determinado período de treinamentos. METODOLOGIA: Nadadores de ambos os sexos (n = 23) foram divididos em dois grupos: experimental GE (n = 11), submetido a tratamento com a técnica de relaxamento progressivo duas vezes por semana; de controle GC (n = 12), submetido a tratamento placebo nas mesmas condições. Os tratamentos foram realizados durante sete semanas, com três coletas de sangue (pré, mid e pós-testes). RESULTADOS: A partir da não-normalidade da distribuição indicada pelo teste de Kolmogorov-Smirnov (Dmax = 3,61 > Dcrítico = 0,276, NC = 95%), decidiu-se pela análise exploratória dos dados, que revelou os seguintes valores da mediana do nível de cortisol sanguíneo (ng/ml) para os grupos nos pré, mid e pós-testes, respectivamente: GE = 140,7; 95,5 e 86,5, e GC = 141,1; 132,8 e 138,6. Além de observar maior redução da mediana no GE, os valores deste grupo apresentaram-se mais próximos da mediana no pós-teste, o que não ocorreu com o GC, que permaneceu inalterado em relação ao pré-teste. Para corroborar essa tendência, utilizou-se o teste de Mann-Whitney e observou-se uma diferença significativa (p < 0,004) na soma de postos para GE, ao contrário do GC (p > 0,05), o que demonstra maior redução dos níveis de cortisol sanguíneo no GE em relação ao GC. CONCLUSÕES: Os resultados indicam que há influência do tratamento experimental (relaxamento progressivo) na redução dos níveis de cortisol sanguíneo. Isso demonstra intensa relação psicofisiológica entre os processos do organismo humano, indicando a necessidade da utilização de estratégias de controle do treinamento desportivo para evitar o estresse excessivo.
FUNDAMENTAÇÃO: A comparação de características psicológicas entre atletas e não-atletas constitui-se em um dos tópicos mais explorados na área de estudo da personalidade no esporte. Buscar um possível perfil de personalidade para os atletas de alto rendimento sempre foi um dos principais objetivos dos pesquisadores do tema, fazendo com que atletas sejam estudados e comparados com populações de não-atletas. OBJETIVO: Comparar o perfil de personalidade entre atletas de alto rendimento e indivíduos não-atletas através de características psicológicas, verificando as semelhanças e diferenças existentes entre os subgrupos de atletas e não-atletas (gênero e modalidade esportiva). MÉTODOS: Duzentos e nove atletas (108 homens e 101 mulheres) de quatro modalidades esportivas (voleibol, basquetebol, judô e natação) e 214 não-atletas (169 homens e 45 mulheres) constituíram a amostra. Utilizou-se o FPI-R (Inventário de Personalidade de Freiburg) como instrumento de personalidade. RESULTADOS: Diferenças estatisticamente significativas (p < 0,05) foram encontradas em oito das 12 variáveis do instrumento FPI entre atletas e não-atletas: Inibição, Irritabilidade, Agressividade, Fatigabilidade, Queixas Físicas, Preocupação com a Saúde, Sinceridade e Emotividade. Quando comparados os subgrupos de atletas e não-atletas homens e mulheres, os resultados apontaram mais generalidades e pequenas especificidades nas diferenças entre eles, apresentando diferenças significativas (p < 0,05) nas oito variáveis mencionadas anteriormente, como também em Auto-realização (p < 0,05). Por final, comparando não-atletas e atletas de esporte coletivos (voleibol e basquetebol) e individuais (natação e judô), novamente observaram-se diferenças significativas (p < 0,05) nas mesmas variáveis, diferenciando-se também em Auto-realização (p < 0,000) e Espírito Humanitário (p < 0,01). CONCLUSÕES: Observa-se a existência de características psicológicas especiais e únicas em atletas brasileiros de alto rendimento quando comparados com uma amostra de não-atletas. Os grupos distinguem-se de maneira significativa na maioria das variáveis avaliadas, indicando que os atletas possuem características psicológicas diferenciadas.
O estresse, ao mesmo tempo em que promove a adaptação do ser humano a diferentes situações, em níveis elevados ou se mantidos por longos períodos pode produzir conseqüências para o organismo, acarretando diversos problemas à saúde do indivíduo. A prática de exercício físico e elevada capacidade cardiorrespiratória parecem gerar proteção contra os efeitos indesejados do estresse. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar o efeito do condicionamento físico aeróbico na resposta psicofisiológica a estressores laboratoriais em oficiais do Exército Brasileiro. Para tal, 438 militares realizaram o teste de 12 minutos de Cooper, a fim de avaliar a sua condição cardiorrespiratória. Depois, entre os que percorreram mais de 3.200m (VO2max estimado de 63,01 ± 2,73ml.kg¹.min¹) e menos do que 2.400m (VO2max estimado de 38,7 ± 1,68ml.kg¹.min¹), foram selecionados 28 militares, divididos igualmente em dois grupos denominados, respectivamente, de condicionamento superior (GSUP) e de condicionamento inferior (GINF). Após uma medida inicial em repouso, foram aplicados nos sujeitos dois estressores laboratoriais consecutivos, cold stressor e estressor matemático, enquanto se mensurava o nível de condutibilidade da pele (NCP) dos mesmos. Anteriormente ao início dos estressores, os grupos não apresentavam diferença entre si e, quando da aplicação destes, o GSUP apresentou menores valores de NCP que o GINF durante o cold stressor (9,29 ± 0,06µS e 9,40 ± 0,04µS; p = 0,009, respectivamente) e durante o estressor matemático (9,29 ± 0,07µS e 9,39 ± 0,07µS; p = 0,012, respectivamente). Os resultados sugerem que indivíduos com melhor condição cardiorrespiratória tendem a apresentar padrões reduzidos na resposta autonômica ao estresse, como indicado pelo comportamento dos níveis de condutibilidade na pele.
