A dioctofimatose é uma doença causada pelo nematódeo Dioctophyme renale, que acomete principalmente rins direitos de cães e ao penetrar na cápsula renal causa destruição e atrofia do parênquima, podendo restar apenas uma cápsula fibrosa do rim afetado. Dessa forma, buscando estabelecer as condições histológicas do rim contralateral (RCL) dos animais acometidos pela parasitose, o objetivo desse estudo foi descrever o perfil epidemiológico e alterações anatomopatológicas encontradas em biópsias de rins esquerdos de sete cães submetidos a nefrectomia em decorrência de parasitismo por Dioctophyme renale em rim direito. Informações referentes à raça, sexo, faixa etária, histórico clínico, e alterações histológicas, foram tabulados e avaliados. Para as biópsias foi utilizado o método incisional. Microscopicamente em três amostras (3/7) havia glomerulonefrite membranosa, em quatro (4/7) observou-se infiltrado inflamatório de células mononucleadas e fibrose focal em duas amostras analisadas (2/7). Em uma amostra havia glomeruloesclerose segmentar focal e em outra não havia alteração histológica. Foram contabilizadas mais de uma alteração em uma única amostra. As alterações encontradas nas biópsias indicam algum comprometimento do rim remanescente e sugerindo que possa haver ação sistêmica, ou pelo menos inter-renais das enzimas esofágicas produzidas pelo parasito Este estudo espera contribuir para o estadiamento das funções renais do rim remanescente e auxiliar no estabelecimento do tratamento em cada caso.
O carcinoma de células escamosas (CCEs) é um tumor epitelial maligno de queratinócitos, composto por células heterogêneas com variados fenótipos, que ocorre principalmente em regiões glabras, com pouca ou nenhuma pigmentação. Ele é uma neoplasia comum em cães, gatos, equinos e bovinos, relativamente incomum em ovinos e rara em caprinos e suínos. Este estudo teve por objetivo realizar uma revisão crítica quanto aos diferentes sistemas de classificações histopatológicas de CCEs cutâneos e seu impacto na definição do prognóstico. A medicina humana conta com diversos sistemas de classificação para CCEs orais e cutâneos, como o sistema de Broders (1925) que propõe uma gradação baseada na diferenciação celular, e de Bryne (1992), que se baseia na graduação multifatorial de malignidade, avaliando quatro características morfológicas, para as quais são atribuídos escores e que após a soma dos escores, resultam em um grau. Em medicina veterinária, o sistema de classificação mais utilizado é ainda o de Weiss e Frese (1974), baseado no grau de diferenciação. Todavia, Nagamine et al. (2017) elaboraram um sistema de classificação multifatorial de graduação de malignidade para CCEs orais e cutâneos em cães, avaliando cinco características morfológicas para as quais são atribuídos escores (de 1 a 4) e somados, resultam num grau. Cada um dos sistemas se baseia e um ou vários fatores considerados como prognósticos. Esses sistemas de classificação podem apresentar vantagens e desvantagens, sendo necessário conhecer de forma aprofundada os diferentes aspectos de cada um para que se possa optar pelo que contemple a finalidade diagnóstica.
A neonatologia tem despertado o interesse de diversos médicos veterinários, principalmente daqueles que prestam assistência à gatis ou canis. O I Ciclo de Palestras em Pré-Natal de Pequenos Animais, realizado no período de 19 a 23 de junho do ano de 2017 pelo Núcleo de Ensino e Pesquisa em Reprodução Animal (ReproPEL) da Universidade Federal de Pelotas, teve como principal objetivo disseminar e propagar informações dos mais diferenciados temas acerca da obstetrícia em pequenos animais e como superar os obstáculos que ainda persistem sobre esse processo. As palestras foram ministradas por médicos veterinários especialistas em medicina felina, endocrinologia, reprodução, imagenologia e anestesiologia, expondo divergentes visões a respeito da complexidade do tema abordado colaborando para disseminação e conhecimento na área.
Tumores mamários malignos têm um número relativamente alto de linfócitos T infiltrantes. Atualmente, os linfócitos B infiltrados em tumores têm sido reconhecidos como um potencial marcador no câncer de mama humano. Este estudo teve como objetivo relacionar fatores prognósticos de tumores mamários ao padrão de infiltrado inflamatório em gatas. Foram analisados protocolos de 38 animais diagnosticados com tumor mamário e obtido dados sobre sexo, idade e raça. As amostras foram avaliadas quanto a distribuição, tipo histológico, tamanho, grau histológico, metástase linfonodal, distribuição celular inflamatória e intensidade da inflamação. Para marcação imunoistoquímica, foi utilizado anticorpo monoclonal anti-CD79a. Houve predomínio de gatas idosas e sem raça definida. Carcinomas tubulares, sólidos e cribriformes foram os mais diagnosticados. Tumores de grau III menores que 2,0 cm foram frequentes. O infiltrado inflamatório total era predominantemente multifocal e de baixa contagem, independentemente do tipo histológico, grau e tamanho. Os linfócitos foram as células mais frequentes e de baixa contagem. A imunocoloração CD79a foi observada na maioria dos neoplasmas, mostrando que linfócitos B e plasmócitos são componentes integrais do infiltrado inflamatório do tumor e de distribuição predominantemente difusa. Células CD79a positivas apresentaram diferenças significativas para distribuição (p=0,038), no tamanho (p = 0,045) e invasão linfática (p = 0,039). Este é o primeiro estudo a quantificar as células inflamatórias do microambiente tumoral mamário de gatas e revela resultados iniciais promissores. As células CD79a positivas constituem uma parcela significativa da população linfocitária do microambiente tumoral e fazem parte da resposta inflamatória associada ao tumor em carcinomas mamários felinos.
O objetivo deste trabalho foi relatar a ocorrência de parasitismo por Dioctophyme renale, em rim esquerdo de um felino que também apresentou fibrossarcoma perirrenal esquerdo. Foi atendida no Hospital de clínicas veterinárias da UFPEL uma gata de 10 anos com queixa de dor abdominal e prostração. Exames de imagem sugeriram neoplasma em região perirrenal esquerda. O animal foi submetido a laparotomia, onde observou-se massa tumoral aderida ao rim esquerdo, motivo que levou a realização d nefrectomia A massa tumoral e o rim esquerdo foram encaminhados para estudo histopatológico. No exame macroscópico o rim acometido apresentava atrofia do parênquima, cápsula espessada e aspecto cístico com presença de líquido amarelado contendo estruturas degeneradas identificadas como Dioctophyme renale. A massa tumoral era esbranquiçada, firme e bem vascularizada. Histologicamente a massa era constituída por células neoplásicas pleomórficas, sarcomatosas que podiam estar arranjadas em feixes ou ninhos. A coloração de Tricrômicro de Masson evidenciou fibras colágenas e estroma de tecido conjuntivo fibroso permitindo o diagnóstico de fibrossarcoma. Neste relato, três fatos incomuns foram discutidos: a) ocorrência de Dioctophyme renale em felinos b) envolvimento do rim esquerdo c) fibrossarcoma perirrenal com possibilidade de relação ao parasitismo por Dioctophyme renale.
