Aelurostrongylus abstrusus é um nematódeo que acomete o trato respiratório dos felinos, sendo considerado o parasito mais comum do parênquima pulmonar dos gatos. Pelo fato de os sinais clínicos serem inespecíficos, o uso de técnicas coproparasitológicas é importante para o diagnóstico definitivo. Dentre estas, a técnica de Baermann é considerada a de eleição. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a presença de larvas de A. abstrusus em amostras fecais de gatos domésticos do município de Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Foram analisadas, através da técnica de Baermann, 60 amostras. Destas, duas foram positivas para larvas de 1º estágio deste parasito, representando 3,3% do total. Estes dados evidenciam a importância da realização desta técnica no diagnóstico de aelurostrongilose, sendo relevante para o diagnóstico diferencial das afecções respiratórias dos felinos.
Lagochilascaris minor é um nematódeo que pode acometer diversas espécies de mamíferos, sendo responsável pela zoonose parasitária denominada lagochilascaríase. Este parasito apresenta ciclo heteróxeno, necessitando de um hospedeiro intermediário, geralmente roedores, e um definitivo, como felinos e humanos. A infecção ocorre através da ingestão de carne crua ou mal cozida do hospedeiro intermediário, contendo larvas encistadas. Clinicamente, caracteriza-se por abscessos cutâneos e subcutâneos, localizados principalmente na região cervical e orofaríngea, podendo acometer, em casos mais graves, pulmão e sistema nervoso. O diagnóstico pode ser realizado através da identificação do parasito nas lesões fistuladas e através da visualização de ovos no exame coproparasitológico. O objetivo deste trabalho foi relatar o caso de um felino doméstico, assintomático, diagnosticado com Lagochilascaris sp. a partir da observação de ovos deste parasito através de técnica coproparasitológica.
Este estudo, teve como objetivo, determinar a frequência de parasitos gastrintestinais em gatos domésticos no município de Pelotas, RS, Brasil. Foram analisadas, 60 amostras fecais, destas, 43 (71,7%) eram procedentes de animais adultos e 17 (28,3%) de filhotes. As fezes foram processadas pelas técnicas de Willis & Mollay (1921), Faust (1938) e Hoffmann, Pons e Janer (1934). Destas amostras, 22 (36,7%) foram positivas para pelo menos um gênero de parasito, 17 apresentavam infestação simples (77,27%) e 5, associação de parasitos (22,73%). Ovos do gênero Ancylostoma e Toxocara foram os mais observados, estando presentes em 8 amostras cada (13,3%). Nos animais jovens, houve maior frequência de Toxocara sp., enquanto nos adultos, predominou Ancylostoma spp. Foram observados ainda, ovos dos cestódeos, Dipylidium caninum, Taenia Taeniaeformis e Spirometra sp., além de cistos de Giardia sp. e oocistos de Cystoisospora spp. A ocorrência de um número significativo de parasitos e a proximidade entre os animais e o homem mostra a necessidade de um controle mais efetivo para que ocorra a redução da carga parasitária dos animais e consequentemente do ambiente.
As urolitíases são desordens de grande importância na rotina da clínica de animais de companhia, e ocorrem devido a formação de cristais, que se agregam, formando concreções sólidas denominadas urólitos. Altas concentrações de solutos, principalmente de minerais, são um dos principais fatores predisponentes para o desenvolvimento do urólito. Pode acometer ambos os sexos, mas é mais frequente nos machos com idade entre seis e onze anos. O presente relato teve como objetivo, descrever o caso de um filhote canino, castrado, diagnosticado com urolitiase. O animal apresentava sinais de disúria e anúria e na avaliação clínica, observou-se abaulamento do abdômen. Através do exame de ultrassonografia abdominal foi visualizado estruturas compatíveis com urólitos na bexiga e uretra, confirmando o diagnóstico. Para retirada dos urólitos, o procedimento realizado foi a uretrostomia escrotal. Como terapia auxiliar, foi preconizado uso de dieta calculolítica. Após um mês de tratamento dietético, foi realizada nova urinálise, onde não observou-se mais cristais, estabelecendo um bom prognóstico para o paciente.
