Este artículo tiene por objetivo analizar la génesis de la relación del pentecostalismo chileno con la cultura Andina, especialmente la boliviana, como opción religiosa válida en el contexto cultural. Teóricamente nos sustentamos en Clifford Geertz, para quien la religión incluye la tradición objetiva y subjetiva como también una visión simbólica y ostensiva de las creencias. Metodológicamente, se utiliza como fuente de información la revista Fuego de Pentecostés, donde aparecen reportes de misioneros pentecostales chilenos en Bolivia. Los resultados de la investigación son: la misión como ideología civilizatoria, la inclusión de lengua indígena, enfermedad, sanidad, sueños, visiones, construcción de redes misionales, ritos y ceremonias.
Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é conhecer as condições e as interpretações da construção social da beleza e a feiura da juventude feminina nas histórias pentecostais entre os anos 1925 até 1950. Para isso, voltamo-nos à revista Fogo do Pentecostes. Este artigo foi dividido em três seções. Começamos por descrever o contexto social e econômico em que o pentecostalismo chileno se desenvolve; uma sociedade onde o pobre não tinha a chance de escapar da pobreza. Em segundo lugar, nós nos referimos à juventude e à beleza, onde a juventude é um conceito fugaz e a beleza física é uma negação evidente: a juventude é uma realidade espiritual e a existência física é apenas uma miragem. Finalmente, abordamos o corpo feminino e o espaço da miséria. Isto é, a luta na qual o pentecostalismo tenta convencer as jovens sobre a futilidade da preocupação com o corpo, porque a realidade social é concebida como uma desapropriação corporal; porque as mulheres jovens são encorajadas à desafeição, obediência e discordância entre o corpo e a realidade física da sociedade e pela comunidade pentecostal.
Resumen Este artículo busca dilucidar los intereses tanto de los actores políticos como de los agentes religiosos que han hecho posible que el Te Deum Evangélico sea parte de la cultura religiosa y política en Chile. Mediante un examen socio histórico se explica cómo los Te Deum evangélicos en Chile se convirtieron en el símbolo de la salida de cristianos no católicos a la participación política y fueron canal de legitimación y elevación de estatus de una minoría religiosa. Desde lo metodológico, el abordaje fue a partir del nuevo rol de los evangélicos a nivel público y nacional, analizado desde dos perspectivas teóricas: la desprivatización de las religiones en el mundo moderno de José Casanova y la teoría de campo religioso de Pierre Bourdieu. La primera parte, se refiere a la evolución histórico-social de los evangélicos en Chile como una minoría “invisible”; la segunda, demuestra el acercamiento entre los evangélicos y el gobierno de Pinochet a través de los Te Deum; en la tercera, se examinan las relaciones entre los organizadores de los Te Deum y como este fue legitimado por los gobiernos democráticos. Para acceder a la versión de distintos actores entre 1973-1991 acudimos a fuentes primarias como las publicaciones de la prensa escrita, visual, revista especializadas, documentos y libros.
El presente artículo aborda la cultura pentecostal a partir de un análisis de la novela de Rivera Letelier, Himno del ángel parado en una pata, ambientada en la en la década de 1960, en la zona minera del salitre, en Antofagasta. Su principal objetivo es analizar cómo la miseria, la sobrevivencia, el mal, el dolor y el sufrimiento humano, característicos de las dinámicas sociales de la época en dicha área, y específicamente en los imaginarios plasmados en la literatura de entonces, son asumidos y resignificados desde una perspectiva religiosa, concretamente pentecostal. En el abordaje teórico se recurrió a los estudios de Clifford Geertz, para quien uno de los roles de la religión es asignar sentido al dolor y al sufrimiento en cuanto experiencias sociales. En este sentido, el pentecostalismo no resuelve problemas, sino que les asigna sentido, valor y significado. El artículo está dividido en tres grandes apartados: (1) Tiempo y espacio cúltico. (2) La construcción de lo masculino y lo femenino. (3) El problema del mal y el dolor. En el primero, damos cuenta de la relación entre vivienda y templo pentecostal como dos construcciones precarias, donde el templo es en un espacio flexible condicionado por el culto, un tiempo y un espacio, que brinda libertad a las emociones religiosas. Luego nos referimos a la tensión de siempre entre las exigencias institucionales frente a lo femenino y lo masculino, pero en la que los sujetos finalmente deciden y encuentran sus espacios de libertad para flexibilizar las demandas religiosas; y pese a los controles sobre todo en relación con el cuerpo, que pesan sobre las mujeres, ellas logran sortearlos. Por último, en relación con el mal y el dolor destacamos as distintas ritualidades que el autor muestra que los pentecostales realizan, como estrategias para disminuir los efectos caótico en la vida del creyente, sobre todo lo relacionado con la enfermedad y la muerte.
El objetivo de este artículo es hacer una revisión de las principales teorías de las ciencias sociales aplicadas al pentecostalismo latinoamericano, seleccionando a autores y autoras más reconocidos de México, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina y Brasil. En términos generales, las teorías aplicadas al pentecostalismo latinoamericano, se pueden sintetizar en cinco presupuestos: religión popular; teoría de la comunicación; movimiento social; dramaturgia y de las emociones.
