Las trasformaciones que viven las comunidades indígenas a partir de la instrumentación de las políticas neoliberales por parte del gobierno federal son un proceso de innovación sociocultural que ha dado lugar a diversas formas de organización socioeconómica en las comunidades indígenas. El objetivo de este documento es exponer dos tipos de respuesta que surgen de las comunidades indígenas en el estado de Chiapas, México. La metodología tiene un enfoque interdisciplinario que permite construir el marco de análisis que se vincula elementos históricos, sociológicos, antropológicos y económicos en los territorios, una perspectiva interdisciplinar que se extrapola las explicaciones sobre un fenómeno y que el objetivo es la diferencia de las características científicas en la comprensión de los fenómenos del mundo real. Como parte de la investigación cualitativa se realiza entrevistas, la observación participante y el acercamiento etnográfico. Los resultados muestran los tipos de perspectivas de desarrollo económico y social entre la población indígena, las relaciones del mercado capitalistas y la otra articulación a la renovación.
Los territorios rurales, como todo territorio de México y el mundo, están en continua reconfiguración de su espacio social. En San Juan Ixtenco, estos cambios son resultado de procesos socioculturales y políticos relacionados con directrices que provienen de los organismos internacionales, de las políticas federales, así como de la acción de los actores sociales locales. Por otro lado, la cultura y la organización social de los actores sociales configuran procesos comunales que llevan a preservar la cohesión social y su cultura. La soberanía alimentaria es uno de estos procesos que descansa en las costumbres y las tradiciones de la cultura campesina y que se innova al construir nuevas formas de participación comunitaria. En esta perspectiva, la percepción del riesgo ambiental por parte de las comunidades también incide en la reconfiguración del territorio rural de Ixtenco. En este poblado de origen otomí, los actores sociales establecen sus vínculos con la sociedad nacional y global a través de la soberanía alimentaria y su percepción del riesgo ambiental. El cultivo del maíz y la elaboración de tortillas artesanales constituyen procesos que posibilitan la construcción social de la soberanía alimentaria y una defensa ecológica de su territorio.
Los Estados nacionales en América Latina impulsan la conectividad en los territorios rurales, suponen que esta promueve el crecimiento y desarrollo social del territorio. La vía para lograr este propósito ha sido la formulación de políticas públicas que promueven la conectividad; sin embargo, dichas políticas, a pesar de que enuncian el aliento del desarrollo social, no han logrado que la brecha digital y la desigualdad social entre los diversos sectores de la población sean disminuidas. En este artículo se analizan dos tipos de conectividad, la satelital y la técnica, se realiza una crítica al uso indistinto en la literatura latinoamericana del concepto de conectividad. Existen estudios que resaltan las ventajas económicas o políticas de la conectividad, y otros donde el interés se centra en los efectos sociales y culturales que produce la conectividad entre la población rural. Se concluye que la literatura latinoamericana adolece de un abordaje conjunto de la conectividad satelital como técnica y sus efectos sociales en la vida rural. La experiencia de varios países de Latinoamérica que presentan problemáticas semejantes posibilita este tipo de conclusiones.
El territorio indígena en Zinacantán, Chiapas, se vio transformado a partir de la década de los años ochenta por la introducción del cultivo de flores en invernadero. Esta tecnología desplazó al ancestral cultivo del maíz en las parcelas y demandó una mayor atención de las familias. La producción de flores aumentó el ingreso económico, lo que implicó también cambios en la alimentación de la población. Otro problema que surgió por la producción intensiva de flores fue la escasez de agua para consumo humano y daños a la salud por el uso de agroquímicos. El objetivo de la investigación fue analizar este proceso en el que se entrelazan los cambios en la agricultura y la alimentación con problemas ambientales. El método cualitativo apoyado en descripciones etnográficas fue la base metodológica. Se realizaron treinta encuestas a padres de familia más ocho entrevistas semiestructuradas, y se utilizaron otros recursos como cartografía social e imágenes satelitales.
