La determinación del estado refractivo es fundamental para las personas que cursan con visión borrosa, el optometrista es el encargado de determinar la graduación flnal para la corrección de la visión lejana y cercana. Objetivo: Determinar si existe variación en la refracción obtenida con las técnicas de refracción subjetiva habitual y la refracción subjetiva mediante la mínima diferencia apreciable (MDA). Materiales y métodos Se determinó la agudeza visual monocular en visión lejana, se realizó la retinoscopía estática obteniendo un poder dióptrico compensador y después fue aflnado por medio de las técnicas de refracción subjetiva habitual y se evaluó nuevamente la agudeza visual. Se calculó la MDA matemática tomando como base la agudeza visual sin corrección del paciente y las constantes de distancia. rinalmente se compararon los valores de la agudeza visual obtenida con el poder dióptrico encontrado con los dos métodos y se analizaron los resultados mediante una estadística descriptiva. Resultados: La agudeza visual en el 80% de los casos, no varió con ninguno de los dos métodos utilizados, lo que indica que ambos métodos son útiles para determinar el estado refractivo y en ambos se obtiene una mejoría en la agudeza visual con corrección óptica. Conclusión: La refracción subjetiva obtenida mediante la MDA se puede aplicar para determinar el estado refractivo, particularmente en casos especiales, aunque no suple la refracción subjetiva. La visión es el motor que impulsa el desarrollo psicomotor de las personas. La ausencia o la interacción inadecuada con el estímulo visual se convierten en un problema con altas repercusiones emocionales, sociales y económicas. Las alteraciones visuales o patológicas que conlleven a la baja visión en su diagnóstico y tratamientos deben tratarse por un equipo multidisciplinario, el cual se compone de un optómetra, un oftalmólogo, un psicólogo y un rehabilitador, con el fin de implementar programas de estimulación visual y de prescripción de ayudas ópticas no convencionales y no ópticas. En este reporte de caso, la paciente se diagnosticó con miopía degenerativa en ambos ojos; por tal razón, se remitió a baja visión para valoración y rehabilitación visual. Allí se efectuó un examen completo y se analizaron a profundidad las alternativas existentes para la corrección del caso. Finalmente, se adaptó una ayuda óptica no convencional para visión lejana —telescopio 3x— y una para visión próxima —microscopio 1x + lupa hoja 3x—, con lo cual se dio de alta a la paciente y se respondió a los objetivos planteados durante el tratamiento.
De acuerdo con la declaración del 27 de abril de 2020 de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), el 31 de diciembre de 2019 se confirmó la presencia de un nuevo coronavirus, causante de múltiples casos de neumonía en la ciudad de Wuhan, China. Por su propagación y gravedad, el 11 de marzo de 2020 la OMS declaró que se había alcanzado el nivel de pandemia (OMS, 2020). En México, el 24 de marzo de 2020, en el Diario Oficial de la Federación (DOF) se publicó un acuerdo para establecer medidas preventivas y mitigar los riesgos de salud provocados por el SARS-CoV2 (covid-19). Esta pandemia ha hecho del 2020 un año sumamente retador para el mundo entero. En Aguascalientes, México, continuamos con la vida habitual durante el primer trimestre; sin embargo, la última semana de marzo nuestra universidad emprendió medidas sanitarias para proteger a su comunidad, entre las que se encontraban el confinamiento, la implementación de cursos a distancia y la suspensión de todos los encuentros académicos programados para ese año. Esta situación, reconocida como “nueva normalidad” impulsó la creatividad de la comunidad universitaria para adecuar las actividades planeadas y para diseñar proyectos emergentes. En el mes de julio debió haberse realizado la emisión 21 del Seminario de Investigación convocado anualmente por la Dirección General de Investigación y Posgrado con el propósito de difundir “resultados de investigaciones científicas, humanísticas y tecnológicas, así como reforzar la integración de redes y grupos de investigación” (SI, 2020). Dado que el Seminario no pudo realizarse este año, el Departamento de Apoyo a la Investigación generó un proyecto emergente mediante el cual convocó a profesores de todos los centros de la UAA, que tuvieran proyectos de investigación concluidos, a elaborar un capítulo de libro para una publicación que permitiera reconocer las distintas disciplinas desde las cuales se realiza investigación en nuestra universidad. En el acto de hacer converger en una misma publicación la diversidad de proyectos –de las Ciencias Agropecuarias, las Ciencias Biomédicas, las Ciencias del Diseño y la Construcción, las Ciencias Económicas y Administrativas, las Ciencias Naturales y Exactas, las Ciencias Sociales, las Artes y las Humanidades–, realizados por una comunidad académica que comparte los valores, misión, visión y recursos –humanos y materiales– dispuestos por una institución, se reconoce una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre la noción de sistema expuesta por Mario Bunge, quien fue uno de los científicos de habla hispana que ha marcado una gran cantidad de investigaciones latinoamericanas.
El trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) se caracteriza por una alteración generalizada del desarrollo cerebral, que afecta la socialización, comunicación, imaginación y reciprocidad emocional y se evidencia mediante conductas repetitivas e inusuales. El uso de prismas gemelos estimula una reorganización neurológica y provoca cambios en la percepción visual. El objetivo del presente artículo fue evaluar las habilidades visuales y determinar el efecto de los prismas gemelos en la atención, postura y comportamiento de los niños con TEA. Se elaboró un estudio de intervención con muestras pareadas antes-después; se incluyeron 20 niños con diagnóstico de TEA en edades de 4 a 16 años, y se realizó una evaluación optométrica basal, aplicando un cuestionario para identificar síntomas y otra posterior al uso de un anteojo con prismas base superior, durante 4 meses. El análisis estadístico se realizó con prueba t de Student para muestras no independientes. Se halló que la media de edad fue de 10,05 años, 90 % sexo masculino, 45 % hipermetropía, 30 % insuficiencia de convergencia, 90 % fusión y 85 % estereopsis gruesa. El promedio de aciertos en el cuestionario inicial fue de 18,50 ± 7,64 y en el final de 13,20 ± 7,53 p = 0,000. Finalmente, se concluye que la hipermetropía se presenta en el 45 % de los casos; un 30 % presenta insuficiencia de convergencia, y el 85 %, estereopsis gruesa; asimismo, el uso de prismas gemelos de 3 dioptrías base superior produce cambios estadísticamente significativos en la postura, atención y comportamiento, por lo que se propone como alternativa de manejo adicional en niños con TEA
