Y una ontologia poetica, sutilmente elaborada, a la que Arguedas no renunci6 nunca.Todavia en el <> de Los zorros, Arguedas sigue definiendo su relaci6n -ya intermitente-con el mundo como una armonia profunda, animada entre ser, cosa y palabra. El antropologo reconoceria en seguida el sentido < de esta fe en el lenguaje como encarna-ci6n del mundo. <> Al desfallecer la palabra decae el ser, es el silencio que precede al suicidio.En Los rios profundos, en cambio, la palabra da voz y cuerpo al deseo. Ya en el primer capitulo, el viaje al Cuzco, centro del mundo, es un regreso (decepcionado, es cierto) a la fuente de la vida y la conciencia, integradas en ese orden a la vez natural y humano que se expresa en las piedras estructurales de la cultura incaica. Para Ernesto, el muro inca es una concreci6n viva, ardiente de esa cultura animada de voces, luces, rios de sangre que dibujan el mapa de su cuerpo absorto en el recuerdo. Por eso las piedras bullen como la sangre hirviente, evocando el tiempo de las danzas guerreras, los ritos y armonias del paraiso perdido.El Cuzco es la utopia: fusi6n de mundo natural y cultura, de hombre, paisaje y palabra en la intensificaci6n vibrante del canto. <> del padre, que desde su nostalgia le contagia a Ernesto lo que llama su >: el rescate po6tico de esa utopia. Ya dentro de Ernesto, que se entrega a una complicada sinestesia, se combinan im-
