Objetivo: Evidenciar as práticas alternativas de cura existentes em uma comunidade quilombola do Maranhão. Método: Trata-se de um estudo exploratório e descritivo com abordagem qualitativa baseado na rede de relações, também conhecido como método “Snowball”. A coleta de dados ocorreu entre maio e junho de 2022 em duas etapas: a primeira foi a apresentação da proposta da pesquisa para a comunidade quilombola e a segunda foi a delimitação da amostra aos participantes e entrevistas. Resultados e discussões: Entrevistou-se 12 famílias, com um entrevistado por família, maioria mulheres, com idade entre 18 a 69 anos. As condições de acesso à saúde são precárias, desta forma as práticas alternativas de cura, sendo elas, plantas medicinais na forma de chás e garrafadas, além da benzeção e da fé são utilizadas pela comunidade para tratar ou curar doenças. Foram citadas vinte e três diferentes tipos de plantas medicinais para tratamento de processos inflamatórios, síndromes gripais, dores e outras enfermidades. Esses saberes são propagados no ambiente familiar e a figura feminina se destaca como protagonista e vê nas práticas um meio para conseguir esse feito. Considerações finais: O conhecimento prático que surge da relação entre os quilombolas e a natureza ligados ao cultivo, manipulação das plantas medicinais e rituais religiosos utilizado para o tratamento de doenças são indispensáveis para vida desses cidadãos e compreendê-los dentro de suas dimensões culturais pode oportunizar o cuidado em saúde integralizado e holístico.
