Introducción: El método POLD, basada en la movilización resonante, ha mostrado tener un efecto positivo tanto en la disminución del dolor como del grado de incapacidad en pacientes con lumbalgia. Objetivo: Determinar la eficiencia del método POLD en la reducción del dolor en pacientes adultos mayores con lumbalgia Materiales y método: Se realizó una investigación cuasi experimental incluyendo 30 adultos mayores con dolor lumbar, quienes firmaron un consentimiento informado. Se usó la escala de EVA y Oswestry para determinar el nivel de dolor e incapacidad, respectivamente. La técnica POLD fue aplicada durante aproximadamente 20 minutos. El nivel de dolor e incapacidad antes y después de la intervención fueron comparados mediante la prueba de Wilcoxon con un nivel de probabilidad de 5%. Resultados: La aplicación del método POLD mostró tener un efecto positivo sobre la disminución del dolor evidenciado por la disminución del dolor de 8 a 7 en la escala de EVA, mientras que el grado de incapacidad de los adultos mayores se mantuvo dentro del rango de incapacidad moderada, la cual va desde 21 a 40%. Además, se observó que el nivel de dolor e incapacidad fue mayor en mujeres que en hombres. Conclusión: Se demuestra el efecto positivo de la aplicación del Método POLD para problemas de lumbalgia en adultos mayores, por lo que se sugiere repetir este tipo de intervenciones en otros centros geriátricos del Ecuador
Introducción: Los trastornos musculoesqueléticos están asociados con el trabajo repetitivo, derivando en una serie de problemas de salud que van desde pequeñas molestias hasta lesiones con discapacidad permanente del paciente. Objetivo: Determinar la efectividad de un programa de prevención de lesiones musculoesqueléticas en estudiantes que reciben clases de modalidad virtual. Material y métodos: Se realizó una investigación cuasi experimental que incluyó a 34 estudiantes quienes firmaron el consentimiento informado, se aplicó una encuesta donde se solicitó información sobre variables sociodemográficas y evaluación de las condiciones del sitio donde reciben clases. Además, se determinó la presencia de síntomas musculoesqueléticas mediante la aplicación del cuestionario Nórdico. Posteriormente se aplicó un programa de intervención que consistió en charlas ergonómicas, estiramientos y pausas activas durante cuatro semanas consecutivas. Resultados: El 90,9% de los estudiantes reportó algún tipo de dolor musculoesquelético, siendo más frecuente en el cuello (94,1%), en la región lumbar (79,45%) y el hombro (70,6%), de la cual la mayor parte de los entrevistados describieron niveles de dolor intermedio en cuello (41,2%), hombro (29,4%) y dorsal o lumbar (29,4%), mientras que en codo y antebrazo y muñeca y mano la mayoría no presento molestias. Posterior a la intervención, el nivel de dolor disminuyó en las diferentes partes del cuerpo evaluadas (p< 0,05). Conclusión: Con base en los resultados se demuestra el efecto positivo del plan de prevención sobre la mejora de dolor musculoesqueléticas de los estudiantes intervenidos, por lo que se sugiere aplicar este tipo de programas en otras carreras.
