Palavras-chave: Oryza sativa, interferência, competição, plantas daninhas, características morfofisiológicas.ABSTRACT -The Echinochloa species are among the most important weeds in flooded rice fields of Rio Grande do Sul, causing economic losses to the culture, due to its high competivity for environmental resources. The objective of this study was to compare the relative competitive abilities between two rice cultivars and an Echinochloa spp. biotype. Greenhouse experiments were conducted in 2006/07 growing season utilizing a completely randomized design with four replications. The treatments were arranged in a replacement series experiment by establishing five proportions of rice plants and competitor (100:0; 75:25; 50:50; 25:75 and 0:100), maintaining a constant population of 24 plants per pot. Rice cultivars were IRGA 417 or BR-IRGA 410, and the competitor was an Echinochloa spp. biotype. Competitive analysis was accomplished through diagrams usually applied to replacement series studies and indexes of relative competivity. The plant variables evaluated were: leaf area and shoot dry weight. There was competition between the IRGA 417or BR-IRGA 410 cultivars and the Echinochloa spp., independently of the proportion of the plants, with the competitors presenting reduced leaf area and shoot dry matter weight. Echinochloa spp. presents smaller relative productivity loss, reduces the morphological rice variables, and shows to be more competitive than the rice cultivars.
As espécies nabo forrageiro e azevém apresentaram maior cobertura do solo.
Weed interference periods on in the initial growth of eucalyptusAbstract -The objective of this work was to determine the interference periods of weeds on the growth and development of eucalyptus. The experiment was done in the fi eld from August 2006 to April 2008, with a hybrid of Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla planted in a randomized block design, with three replicates. Treatments consisted of coexistence and control periods of weeds with eucalyptus culture. During the coexistence treatment, the culture was maintained in the presence of weeds by increasing initial periods of 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270, 300, 330 and 360 days after culture transplant (DAT). During the control treatment, the culture was maintained free from weeds for the same periods above described; weeds emerged after those intervals were no longer controlled. Evaluations were made at 360 and at 630 DAT. The competition with weeds caused reduction of the stem diameter and of the dry matter of stems and shoots. Weed control, in the fi rst year of the eucalyptus culture, must be adopted at the end of the period before interference, which happens 107 days after the culture transplant.
Palavras-chave: resistência cruzada, pyrazosulfuron-ethyl, bispyribac-sodium, junquinho.ABSTRACT -Herbicide resistance is a worldwide phenomenon of great concern to scientists, technicians and producers. It is characterized as the capacity of a biotype to survive a treatment using herbicide that controls the other individuals of the same population under normal field conditions and at the dose recommended by the manufacturer. The objective of this research was to determine the resistance level of two Cyperus difformis biotypes to ALS-inhibiting herbicides. The herbicide treatments consisted of the application of bispyribac-sodium, pyrazosulfuron-ethyl, (ALS-inhibitors) and bentazon (photosystem II inhibitor) sprayed at seven multiple commercial doses (0,0x; 0.5x; 1x; 2x; 4x; 8x and 16x), on two plant populations of C. difformis, at the stage of four to six leaves. The CYPDI-10 biotype showed a crossed-resistance to the ALS-inhibiting herbicides pyrazosulfuron-ethyl and bispyribac-sodium, while bentazon showed an efficient control of the resistant and susceptible populations. It was concluded that for the correct management of ALSresistant C. difformis biotypes in flooded rice areas of Santa Catarina, Brazil, the use of herbicides with different action mechanisms should be adopted, as well as other management practices in order to restrict the expansion of resistant populations of C. difformis.
