A temática dos resíduos sólidos urbanos (RSU) foi abordada neste trabalho analisando-se aspectos de produção de energia e potencial das cadeias de inovação tecnológica. Foi analisada a produção de biogás no aterro sanitário em Marechal Cândido Rondon (MCR) obtendo-se um resultado considerado promissor, consistindo da medição de fração de metano de 68,5 %. Realizou-se cálculos de projeção de produção de biogás para a vida útil de 100 anos do aterro sanitário Marechal Cândido Rondon, aplicando o modelo de Scholl-Canyon. Obteve-se curva de projeção com pico de produção de 1,5x10 6 m³ de biogás para o ano de 2032. Isto equivale a aproximadamente 903 toneladas de GLP por ano, com economia de aproximadamente R$ 6,94 milhões de reais/ano ao município de MCR pela substituição de GLP pelo biogás. Os trabalhos contemplaram estudos de processos energéticos alternativos, consistindo da instalação de grupo motogerador de 74 kVA para geração de energia elétrica utilizando o biogás produzido no aterro sanitário. Para aumentar a produtividade do sistema de geração de energia elétrica, está em testes pelo município, um sistema de coleta seletiva de resíduos orgânicos, consistindo de uma importante inovação de processo tecnológico para a cadeia de coleta, processamento e aproveitamento de resíduos orgânicos no município. Os valores calculados de produção de biogás no aterro sanitário foram comparados com projeções de produção de biogás em biodigestores dedicados, alimentados com a coleta seletiva através dos novos caminhões adquiridos para coleta de orgânicos, obtendo-se resultados de produção de biogás em torno de 250 % acima do que seria produzido no aterro sanitário. Com isso, confirma-se que a coleta seletiva de resíduos orgânicos tem um elevado potencial energético para produção de biogás, esperando-se assim aumentar a eficiência energética da cidade de MCR, consolidando também a cadeia de inovação tecnológica no setor.
