Abstract.Studios. This ability gained through visual design thinking. The spatial experience honed by three dimensional thinking from the medium diversity. The spatial experience learned through a room layout, proportion, and composition. This research used an experimental method and the primary data obtained by a "Likert" scale questionnaire. The Respondents are 50 students of the Architectural Design Studio. Moreover, the analysis focuses on the VR for spatial experience. The result was a descriptive explanation of the effectiveness of Virtual Reality for a spatial experience of architecture students at Technology University of Yogyakarta.
This study is a literature review based on a number of empirical studies on the thermal conditions of elementary, junior high and high school schools, especially in Indonesia. School buildings in tropical climates are generally not specifically designed for thermal comfort. So far, school buildings have only focused on the principle of fulfilling functional needs even though thermal comfort is needed by students. On average, school students in tropical climates have a high thermal tolerance between 1ºC to 12ºC or above the standard thermal measurement (24ºC -26ºC). However, most students still expressed a hot thermal sensation and still hoped that the room temperature could be lowered. For this reason, school buildings certainly need a thermal control strategy which will also be discussed in this paper.
Thermal in buildings are always interesting to discuss, especially in tropical climate countries, more in related to the traditional architecture that many are around us today. This study aims to present the actual information related to the thermal comfort of traditional buildings in current conditions. This research tries to prove public opinion which still believes that traditional buildings are always comfortable and able to survive with the existing climate conditions. The method used is literature review on the results of research in journals that discuss the thermal comfort of traditional buildings in Indonesia. Some previous studies have claimed that traditional architecture has been design in such a way as to compromise climate conditions. However, recent research trends show that traditional architecture is no longer able to maintain thermal comfort, so design intervention is absolutely necessary. Thermal discomfort is influenced by tropical climate pressures that tend to be very hot, changes in the environment, buidling system, materials, design, and orientation of the building.Keyword: Traditional Architecture, Thermal, Local Wisdom, Tropical ClimateAbstrak: Termal bangunan akan selalu menarik dibahas khususnya pada negara iklim tropis, terlebih dikaitkan dengan arsitektur tradisional yang masih bertahan di sekitar kita saat ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan menyajikan informasi aktual terkait kenyamanan termal bangunan tradisional saat ini. Upaya membuktikan pendapat umum yang masih beranggaoan bahwa bangunan tradisional selalu nyaman dan mampu bertahan dengan kondisi iklim yang ada. Metode yang digunakan adalah tinjauan pustaka pada hasi-hasil penelitian di jurnal yang membahas tentang kenyamanan termal bangunan tradisional di Indonesia. Beberapa waktu sebelumnya banyak penelitian yang mengklaim bahwa arsitektur tradisional telah dikonsepkan sedemikian rupa untuk bertahan terhadap iklim. Akan tetapi tren penelitian terbaru memperlihatkan bahwa arsitektur tradisional sebenarnya sudah tidak lagi mampu mempertahankan kenyamanan termal, sehingga intervensi desain mutlak diperlukan. Ketidaknyamanan termal dipengaruhi oleh tekanan iklim tropis yang cenderung sangat panas, perubahan lingkungan di sekitar, sistem bangunan, material, desain, dan orientasi bangunan.Kata Kunci: Arsitektur Tradisional, Kenyamanan Termal, Kearifan lokal, Iklim Tropis.
Nowadays, the parametric design is one of the design approaches or method that architect and designer believe can be a tool for analyzing the possibility of geometric deformation and easily anticipating it by changing parameters. The parameters were changed through the parametric design software, which allows the user or designer to specify relationships between the various parameters in the design process.Still, architecture students were required to be able to use a design software. Students used a design software primarily to help them to develop the design concept or to apply their design analysis. Arguably, the student's ability of a design software impact on their creativity of form studies or design exploration. Furthermore, limited of design features in the design software was an obstacle for the student when they found it took a long time to explore the 3-dimensional model or not easily developed. That reason was believed to affect the quality of design that proposed by architecture students in schematic design and development phase in Architecture Design Studio.The research was done with the correlational descriptive approach. This research introduced a parametric design software to architecture students at the Technology University of Yogyakarta. The software in this research was Rhinoceros and Grasshopper. The respondents in this study were selected, they are 100 people consist of the second and third year of architecture student. Data collected using a Likert questionnaire that contains responses and suggestion after following a series of parametric design software training. In summary, the results of this study show that students were satisfied with their form studies or exploration that created using a parametric design software. Their skill on the design software slightly affects the creativity based on the number of form studies.
Infrastructure of flats is an important of building, that researchers would analyzed of flats infrastructure existing in the city of Yogyakarta, such as flat of Juminahan, Cokrodirjan and Rogoyudan. This study aims to analyze the infrastructure of three public apartments in Yogyakarta, based on the advantages and disadvantages of physical discomfort and un-safety of public apartments users. The analysis resulted some conclusions, such as (1) the material of infrastructure access to the building is adequate, but has dangerous ramp, (2) water infrastructure is adequate, (3) pipe of sewage is leaking, there are no sewage treatment, (4) Electrical Infrastructure is not good because the location of the electrical panel located on the outside of the building so prone to damage and the electricity network funneled into the building through the shaft and with the cable tray distributed throughout the room, (5) Condition of Fire Protections are much damaged, (6) The symbols of evacuation route path is incomplete, (7) Infrastructure of garbage disposal is not managed properly so that uncomfortable, (8) Lightning rod is adequate. Advantages and disadvantages of such infrastructure of public apartment may effect the users comfort, and this research will be useful for the next infrastructure planning.Kebutuhan Infrastruktur bangunan rumah susun menjadi hal penting. Sebelum merencanakan inovasi infrastruktur rumah susun di Kotamadya Yogyakarta, peneliti menganalisa kondisi eksisting infrastruktur dari tiga rumah susun sewa (rusunawa) di Kota Yogyakarta, yaitu dari karakteristik infrastruktur di Rusunawa Juminahan, Cokrodirjan dan Rogoyudan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisa infrastruktur tiga rusunawa di Kotamadya Yogyakarta menurut keunggulan dan kelemahan fisik, ketidaknyamanan dan ketidakamanan pengguna rusunawa. Hasil analisa infrastruktur dari tiga rusunawa tersebut yaitu (1) material akses ke bangunan memadai, dan kemiringan ramp curam, (2) infrastruktur air bersih memadai, (3) infrastruktur air kotor, banyak pipa yang bocor, tidak terdapat pengolaha limbah, (4) Infrastruktur elektrikal tidak memadai karena letak panel listrik terdapat di luar bangunan sehingga rawan dengan kerusakan, (5) Kondisi sistem penanggulangan bahaya kebakaran banyak yang rusak, peralatannya hilang, (6) Jalur evakuasi tidak memadai karena simbol jalur evakuasinya tidak lengkap, (7) Infrastruktur persampahan shaft sampah dan penampungan sampah tidak dikelola dengan baik sehingga sampah berceceran dan menimbulkan bau yang tidak nyaman, (8) Penangkal petir cukup memadai sehingga bangunan aman terhadap petir. Analisa karakteristik tersebut berpengaruh terhadap kenyamanan penghuni rusunawa, dan dapat digunakan pada perencanaan infrastruktur rumah susun yang akan datang.
