Devido ao amplo potencial medicinal de Annona muricata, as pesquisas relacionadas às suas aplicações em diferentes áreas ligadas a saúde são de fundamental importância, principalmente no que se refere a microrganismos infecciosos com tendências a desenvolver mecanismos de resistência, que é o caso de algumas espécies do gênero Candida. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa tem como principal objetivo verificar a ação antifúngica de extratos metanólicos de Annona muricata sobre Candida albicans, Candida parapsilosis, Candida krusei e Candida glabrata. Os órgãos utilizados para obtenção dos extratos metanólicos foram a folha e o fruto da Annona muricata. Para a realização da pesquisa, foram utilizadas cepas ATCC, que foram reativadas e cultivadas em Ágar Saboraud Dextrose. A determinação da atividade antifúngica dos extratos foi realizada pela técnica da difusão em ágar em poços. Na análise dos resultados, os valores de mensuração dos diâmetros dos halos indicaram uma ação mais significativa nos testes realizados com as espécies de C. krusei e C. albicans frente aos extratos brutos da folha e do fruto de A. muricata, com halo de 30mm e 22mm respectivamente. Em relação ao fracionamento químico realizado, os produtos obtidos a partir das frações butanólica e hexánica da folha sobre cepas de C. krusei, C. albicans e C. parapsilosis foram os que apresentaram resultados mais significativos. Dessa forma, comprovou-se que substancias presentes nesse vegetal podem ser utilizadas no controle cepas de Candida, contudo, estudos mais aprofundados são necessários para identificação e isolamento dos compostos biológicos ativos desses vegetais.
O rio Itapecuru passou por intensos processos de degradação ambiental, devido a algumas interferências irregulares de ações antrópicas, bem como, declínio da vegetação ripária, dentre outras ações que estão causando danos ao meio ambiente e a saúde da população que utiliza essa água para diversos fins como: balneabilidade, atividades de pesca, irrigação de plantas dentre outros. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de analisar em termos de parâmetros físico-químicos a qualidade da água do rio Itapecuru no município de Caxias-MA. Tratou-se de um estudo de natureza experimental, com abordagem quanti-qualitativa, realizado no período de 22 de julho a 08 de setembro ano de 2021. As coletas foram obtidas em 10 pontos. Os parâmetros analisados foram: temperatura da água, condutividade elétrica, potencial hidrogeniônico (pH) e oxigênio dissolvido (O.D.). A temperatura média dos pontos foi de 26,8 ºC. Na condutividade a maior média encontrada foi de 60,57 µS/cm, e a menor média foi de 32,47 µS/cm. No potencial hidrogeniônico a média mais elevada foi de 7,6 e a menor apresentou 6,7. No que se refere ao oxigênio dissolvido, à maior média foi de 10,47 mg/L e a menor média de 5,23 mg/L. Conforme os dados obtidos na presente pesquisa a temperatura apresentou valores acima do limite permitido para Classe 2 segundo o Programa Nacional de Avaliação da Qualidade das Águas (PNQA) e os parâmetros condutividade, pH e O.D. se enquadraram dentro dos padrões da legislação vigente.
A resistência bacteriana a antibióticos tornou-se mundialmente um sério problema de Saúde Pública atingindo milhares de pessoas. Assim, vê-se a necessidade de buscar formas alternativas no combate das mesmas. Portanto, essa pesquisa objetivou verificar o efeito antimicrobiano do extrato da Annona muricata L. frente a cepas ATCC de Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa e Staphylococcus aureus. Realizou-se a coleta do material e a obtenção dos extratos, posteriormente houve a preparação das cepas bacterianas para os testes de suscetibilidade. Os testes prosseguiram em três etapas: extratos brutos, extratos fracionados quimicamente e testes com diluições seriadas. Verificou-se atividade antibacteriana da graviola frente a todas as cepas testas sendo o resultado mais significante referente ao extrato bruto do fruto frente a cepa da E. coli com halo igual a 22mm. Em relação aos testes com os extratos já purificados, as frações provenientes do fruto tiverem ação mais relevantes. A fração de Hexano correspondeu em resultados mais expressivos obtendo halos igual a 28mm, 26mm e 37mm frente as cepas de E. coli, K. pneumoniae, e S. aureus respectivamente. Quanto aos testes relacionados as diluições seriadas observamos que a partir da diluição de 1/10 os extratos já não possuíram nenhuma atividade inibitória sobre as bactérias em estudo. Contudo, esses resultados demonstram o potencial do extrato da graviola, em especial do fruto, como fonte de compostos antibacterianos. No entanto, é válido continuar pesquisas mais avançadas com a Annona muricata.
O monitoramento e avaliação permanente dos corpos hídricos em áreas urbanas e suburbanas são essenciais para controlar a qualidade da água. O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi avaliar a qualidade microbiológica da água do rio Itapecuru no curso que percorre a cidade de Caxias-MA. Para a realização das análises microbiológicas da água, foi utilizada a metodologia dos tubos múltiplos, que é indicada para determinação de microrganismos, tais como coliformes totais e coliformes termotolerantes. Inicialmente foi realizado o teste presuntivo, no qual os tubos positivos dessa etapa (tubos que apresentaram fermentação da lactose e produção de gás) foram registrados e a partir deles sucederam-se o teste confirmativo e o teste complementar. No resultado do teste presuntivo as leituras alternaram entre 240 e >1.600 NMP/100 ml, no teste confirmativo para coliformes totais e no teste complementar (Escherichia coli- EC) para coliformes termotolerantes houve uma variação entre 14 e 1600 NMP/100 ml para ambos os testes. Conclui-se que os pontos a montante e central do rio foram classificados como próprio e excelente para balneabilidade e o ponto a jusante como impróprio.
A resistência de micro-organismos patogênicos aos medicamentos convencionais constitui um sério problema de Saúde Pública. A problemática da resistência tem gerado a necessidade do conhecimento de substâncias bioativas que possam atuar como alternativas no tratamento de infecções provocadas por fungos e bactérias. O efeito antimicrobiano da secreção da glândula metapleural já foi demonstrado em algumas espécies de formigas. O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar o efeito antimicrobiano do extrato da glândula metapleural da formiga Paraponera clavata frente as cepas ATCC de bactérias patogênicas Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae e do fungo Candida albicans. Realizou-se a coleta de operárias de formigas, sendo estas mantidas em ninhos artificiais. As glândulas metapleurais foram extraídas e maceradas em hexano, seguido das etapas de evaporação do solvente. Os testes de suscetibilidade foram realizadas pela metodologia da difusão em ágar com a formação de poços, sendo formados poços na segunda camada e adicionados 40µl da amostra do extrato da glândula metapleural. Diferentes concentrações do extrato metapleural foram testadas frente aos micro-organismos. Verificou-se que o extrato da glândula metapleural de P. clavata não inibiu as bactérias e o fungo utilizados na pesquisa. Contudo, destaca-se a importância da realização de testes com outros micro-organismos, tendo em vista que o potencial da glândula metapleural de outras espécies de formigas ter sido comprovado em estudos anteriores e da relevância da descoberta de compostos bioativos alternativos.
