O rio Itapecuru passou por intensos processos de degradação ambiental, devido a algumas interferências irregulares de ações antrópicas, bem como, declínio da vegetação ripária, dentre outras ações que estão causando danos ao meio ambiente e a saúde da população que utiliza essa água para diversos fins como: balneabilidade, atividades de pesca, irrigação de plantas dentre outros. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de analisar em termos de parâmetros físico-químicos a qualidade da água do rio Itapecuru no município de Caxias-MA. Tratou-se de um estudo de natureza experimental, com abordagem quanti-qualitativa, realizado no período de 22 de julho a 08 de setembro ano de 2021. As coletas foram obtidas em 10 pontos. Os parâmetros analisados foram: temperatura da água, condutividade elétrica, potencial hidrogeniônico (pH) e oxigênio dissolvido (O.D.). A temperatura média dos pontos foi de 26,8 ºC. Na condutividade a maior média encontrada foi de 60,57 µS/cm, e a menor média foi de 32,47 µS/cm. No potencial hidrogeniônico a média mais elevada foi de 7,6 e a menor apresentou 6,7. No que se refere ao oxigênio dissolvido, à maior média foi de 10,47 mg/L e a menor média de 5,23 mg/L. Conforme os dados obtidos na presente pesquisa a temperatura apresentou valores acima do limite permitido para Classe 2 segundo o Programa Nacional de Avaliação da Qualidade das Águas (PNQA) e os parâmetros condutividade, pH e O.D. se enquadraram dentro dos padrões da legislação vigente.
O monitoramento e avaliação permanente dos corpos hídricos em áreas urbanas e suburbanas são essenciais para controlar a qualidade da água. O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi avaliar a qualidade microbiológica da água do rio Itapecuru no curso que percorre a cidade de Caxias-MA. Para a realização das análises microbiológicas da água, foi utilizada a metodologia dos tubos múltiplos, que é indicada para determinação de microrganismos, tais como coliformes totais e coliformes termotolerantes. Inicialmente foi realizado o teste presuntivo, no qual os tubos positivos dessa etapa (tubos que apresentaram fermentação da lactose e produção de gás) foram registrados e a partir deles sucederam-se o teste confirmativo e o teste complementar. No resultado do teste presuntivo as leituras alternaram entre 240 e >1.600 NMP/100 ml, no teste confirmativo para coliformes totais e no teste complementar (Escherichia coli- EC) para coliformes termotolerantes houve uma variação entre 14 e 1600 NMP/100 ml para ambos os testes. Conclui-se que os pontos a montante e central do rio foram classificados como próprio e excelente para balneabilidade e o ponto a jusante como impróprio.
A resistência de micro-organismos patogênicos aos medicamentos convencionais constitui um sério problema de Saúde Pública. A problemática da resistência tem gerado a necessidade do conhecimento de substâncias bioativas que possam atuar como alternativas no tratamento de infecções provocadas por fungos e bactérias. O efeito antimicrobiano da secreção da glândula metapleural já foi demonstrado em algumas espécies de formigas. O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar o efeito antimicrobiano do extrato da glândula metapleural da formiga Paraponera clavata frente as cepas ATCC de bactérias patogênicas Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae e do fungo Candida albicans. Realizou-se a coleta de operárias de formigas, sendo estas mantidas em ninhos artificiais. As glândulas metapleurais foram extraídas e maceradas em hexano, seguido das etapas de evaporação do solvente. Os testes de suscetibilidade foram realizadas pela metodologia da difusão em ágar com a formação de poços, sendo formados poços na segunda camada e adicionados 40µl da amostra do extrato da glândula metapleural. Diferentes concentrações do extrato metapleural foram testadas frente aos micro-organismos. Verificou-se que o extrato da glândula metapleural de P. clavata não inibiu as bactérias e o fungo utilizados na pesquisa. Contudo, destaca-se a importância da realização de testes com outros micro-organismos, tendo em vista que o potencial da glândula metapleural de outras espécies de formigas ter sido comprovado em estudos anteriores e da relevância da descoberta de compostos bioativos alternativos.
