Face às precarizações do trabalho, à pobreza e à sombra do desemprego, surge a economia solidária, como alternativa em construção, que promove práticas laborais participativas, justas, cooperativas e coletivistas. Apesar dos pressupostos de justiça e emancipação do homem, observam-se diversas contradições entre o prescrito e o real da economia solidária, constatando-se a influência deletéria das condicionalidades impostas pelo capitalismo. Longe de descartar a economia solidária (ES) como alternativa emancipatória de trabalho, tais contradições indicam a necessidade de constante avaliação e evolução dessas práticas para construção de novos paradigmas sociais e modelos econômicos de produção justos e igualitários. Frente às potencialidades e limitações da ES no seio de suas relações com a economia capitalista, este ensaio tem como objetivo, a partir de exposição reflexiva, analisar criticamente esse sistema econômico quanto ao sentido que apregoa ao trabalho e aos efeitos deletérios que gera para o bem-estar do indivíduo e seu meio social, refletindo a ES como uma proposta de atividade econômica e de trabalho alternativo e emancipatório ao capitalismo, que carrega em si o desafio de se manter sustentável a esse sistema de forças diametralmente opostas e paradoxais à sua natureza colaborativa, e não competitiva.
