Background : Nowadays obesity is a chronic disease considered one of the greatest problems in public healthy. Showing to be effective in a short and long term, the bariatric surgery has emerged as an optional treatment for morbid obesity. Aim: Identify the profile of patients seeking bariatric surgery. Methods: Were interviewed 100 patients in preoperative nutritional monitoring of bariatric surgery. The study was conducted by applying a questionnaire prepared according to the research objectives. Results: From the individuals that were seeking bariatric surgery, 78% were female, 62% were married and 69% reported physical activity. The average age of those surveyed was 37±10.83 years and mean body mass index (BMI) was 43.51± 6.25 kg/m². The comorbidity more prevalent in this group was high blood pressure (51%). In previous treatments for weight reduction, 92% have already done hypocaloric diet followed by anorectic drug (83%). The success of these treatments was reported by 92% of patients; however, the weight lost was recovered in less than one year of 75%. Patients with diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia had higher BMI values. The patients with comorbidities showed lower levels of BMI. Conclusion: The profile of patients who sought surgical treatment for their obesity were predominantly women with a family background of obesity and obesity-related comorbidities, especially hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
Overweightness is related to a high incidence of dyslipidemia, being considered a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.Objective: Analysis of the effect of weight loss in reducing type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular risk 2 years after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.Methods: A retrospective study with patients who underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass involving accessing the database of an Obesity Surgery Clinic from March 2018 to March 2019. Male and female patients, aged 18 and over, who underwent bariatric surgery from March 2014 to March 2016 were analyzed. The following data were obtained from the medical records of patients: body weight, height, age, sex, glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) after 24 months of surgery.Results: In total, 351 patients were studied, 80.9% of whom were female. There was a reduction in weight and in the concentrations of all biochemical parameters, except HDLc, along with a decrease in the frequency of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk 24 months after surgery. When comparing variations between 6 and 12 months, only group 1 reduced Hb1Ac and decreased CVR. There was a significant reduction in the level of glucose in group 1 (p = 0.036) at T4 (18 months) and T5 (24 months).Conclusion: The positive impact determined by bariatric surgery on weight loss was shown to be effective in improving the dyslipidemic profile, reducing morbidities associated with obesity and, consequently, reducing CVR after 24 months.
O presente trabalho teve por objetivo determinar a composição centesimal do tubérculo de batata in natura a ser utilizado no processo de destilação para a produção de etanol e do resíduo sólido resultante da fermentação deste tubérculo. Com base na composição do resíduo, avaliou-se o efeito da sua utilização na substituição de diferentes teores de fibra alimentar de uma dieta padrão, na resposta biológica de ratos. Para a avaliação dos efeitos biológicos, foram utilizados 32 ratos Wistar divididos em quatro grupos. Um dos grupos de animais recebeu a dieta padrão para ratos em crescimento, e os demais grupos receberam esta dieta com substituição de 25, 50 ou 100% de sua fibra alimentar pela fibra do resíduo. Durante o período experimental (23 dias), foram avaliados o consumo, o ganho de peso, o coeficiente de eficiência alimentar (CEA), a produção de fezes secas e úmidas, pH e excreção de nitrogênio fecal. No final do ensaio, foram avaliados o peso do fígado e da gordura epididimal, níveis sanguíneos de triglicerídeos, colesterol total, colesterol HDL e proteínas totais. O resíduo apresentou uma composição centesimal de 8,2% de proteína, 16,7% de fibra alimentar, 62,8% de carboidratos e 288Kcal. Os resultados obtidos no ensaio biológico sugerem que o resíduo sólido da fermentação de tubérculos de batata pode ser empregado como fonte de nutrientes, com base na substituição da fração fibra de uma dieta padrão AIN-93, sem comprometer o desenvolvimento dos ratos e os parâmetros bioquímicos analisados.
Objectives: Dyspnea (shortness of breath) is common among obese individuals. However, no studies have evaluated the effect of dyspnea on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of dyspnea on the OHRQoL of obese individuals prior to bariatric surgery. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 104 obese individuals. Data were collected on socio-demographic characteristics, body mass index, perceptions of xerostomia (dry mouth), tooth loss and OHRQoL (OHIP-14). Poisson regression analysis was used to determine the association between dyspnea and OHRQoL. Results: Individuals with dyspnea had higher total OHIP-14 scores (1.40 ± 3.74) compared to those without dyspnea (0.50 ± 0.39) (P = 0.005). In the multivariate analysis, total OHIP-14 scores were 3.91-fold higher among the individuals with dyspnea. All domains of the questionnaire were associated with dyspnea, except physical disability and psychological disability. Conclusion: Dyspnea exerted a negative impact on OHRQoL in obese individuals, independently of socio-demographic and clinical characteristics.
