Este artículo se propone analizar la revista pedagógica-sindical Quimán, producida por el gremio docente Unión de Trabajadores de la Educación de Río Negro (UnTER), que se editó entre los años 1987-1989 y se presentó como un medio de divulgación, capacitación y formación política y pedagógica para los docentes rionegrinos.El objetivo de este artículo es poner en tensión las diversas posturas construidas sobre la educación rural, una, a partir de las normativas y los discursos oficiales y otra, la que asumió el gremio UnTER a través de su propia prensa. Como hipótesis se sostiene que mientras la política educativa promovió desde sus orígenes una definición de la educación rural elaborada desde un mandato civilizador/homogeneizador e integrador de las diferencias –con el propósito de formación de una conciencia nacional– la revista Quimán se posicionó discursivamente desde una visión social, dinámica y heterogénea de lo rural que buscaba problematizar y promover otros sentidos y alternativas vinculados a su definición y concreción, con el objetivo de instalar una pedagogía rural.
