Estudos interdisciplinares indicam que o diálogo entre história e saúde constituem uma oportunidade a mais no processo de desmonte do controle dos corpos e das subjetividades. Fundado na documentação histórica o artigo evoca a Liga Brasileira de Higiene Mental – LBHM e evidencia impactos de narrativas médicas em relação às questões de gênero, destacadamente, sobre feminilidade. Os resultados sinalizam para permanências estruturais da dominação histórica que a medicina mental decisivamente promoveu, no caso, centrado na ideia de mulher-esposa-mãe.
Este artigo enfatiza a melancolia na cidade de São Paulo entre as décadas de 1920 a 1940, como possibilidade de análise da história da doença na fabricação dos espaços, no caso, recuperados a partir de diagnósticos médicos presentes no manual Psiquiatria Clínica e Forense organizado por Antonio Carlos Pacheco e Silva. Por intermédio da História dos Sentimentos a partir de Sônia A. Siqueira, onde os sentimentos são tratados como indícios históricos e sociais, destacam-se subjetividades compartilhadas nos casos clínicos descritos nos diagnósticos de melancolia. A análise demonstra a influência das transformações urbanas no discurso médico sobre a melancolia, vinculando a doença e modernização da cidade, a doença como decorrente da vida moderna.
O artigo analisa publicações em língua portuguesa realizadas entre os anos de 2003 e 2019 acerca do psiquiatra paulistano e intelectual da medicina psiquiátrica brasileira Antonio Carlos Pacheco e Silva. O levantamento realizado evidencia inicialmente uma diminuta produção acadêmica sobre o intelectual, porém, em expansão, dado ao aumento de interesse por pesquisadores vinculados a programas de pós-graduação de universidades localizadas no Estado de São Paulo. Ao relacionar a trajetória intelectual do influente psiquiatra com o mapeamento dos estudos recentes sobre o médico, os resultados desvelaram as preocupações eugênicas e higienistas como centrais, além de projetar o ideal identitário brasileiro a partir da paulistanidade. Os desdobramentos indicam que o intelectual avaliava a miscigenação como doença e divulgava teorias organicistas como organizadoras do social.
O artigo analisa a patologização do feminino no compêndio Psiquiatria Clínica e Forense de Antonio Carlos Pacheco e Silva. O método analítico micro-histórico evidencia circunstâncias de vida de uma mulher exposta pela lógica médica que excluía quem não atingisse o lugar de esposa e mãe, cuja experiencia individual emerge do manual médico como caso exemplar de esquizofrenia. Os resultados indicam que a medicalização da sociedade construiu a representação do feminino desviante como negação do casamento e da maternidade.
A pesquisa analisou a emergência da mulher no discurso médico durante a Era Vargas (1930 a 1945), especificamente, o divulgado pelo psiquiatra Antonio Carlos Pacheco e Silva (1889-1980). Buscamos compreender quais fatores legitimavam suas narrativas, no bojo da construção da normalidade e anormalidade a partir de São Paulo, o qual tinha como escopo proposições que remontavam a eugenia, organicismo e biodeterminismo ou como tais teorias corroboravam à construção da saúde mental feminina ou seus impactos nas vivências de mulheres, principalmente, em seus direitos como cidadãs para, deste modo, contrapor os diagnósticos à realidade de experiências femininas evidenciadas tanto pela documentação, quanto pela historiografia. O material de pesquisa remonta ao compêndio Psiquiatria Clínica e Forense escrito pelo médico paulista, cuja edição, desde a primeira publicação, em 1940, foi largamente utilizada por estudantes da Escola Paulista de Medicina e da Faculdade de Medicina, da Universidade de São Paulo, auxiliando a formação de profissionais das áreas de medicina psiquiátrica e direito penal durante a primeira metade do século XX, no Brasil. Por intermédio do levantamento sistemático dos excertos, casos e imagens que evocam o feminino na obra foram inventariados e analisados em perspectiva interdisciplinar, pois a hermenêutica do cotidiano, bem como os nexos que se estabelecem no diálogo entre diferentes campos do conhecimento, são tratados como possibilidades epistemológicas de entendimento das experiências femininas que atravessam casos individuais e instituições de poder voltadas à sociedade do trabalho, fundadas na medicalização dos corpos, na ordem e no progresso que caracterizaram as origens da República (1889). O primeiro capítulo da dissertação é composto por uma breve análise da extensa biografia de Pacheco e Silva e como essa influência dos saberes divulgados em seu compêndio, bem como os pressupostos da ciência do início do século XX, em oposição aos registros historiográficos das experiências femininas durante o mesmo período. O capítulo seguinte adentra o universo das experiências registradas nos casos, as três mulheres sob observação especializada serão enquadradas enquanto anormais pelos sentimentos exacerbados e o desvio do comportamento sexual desejável ao papel feminino. O capítulo três desvela discursos impostos às mulheres que supostamente subverteram seus papeis enquanto cuidadoras, também três mulheres que se tornaram mães assassinas. O último capítulo, possibilitado pelos discursos da epistemologia feminista, adentra as fragilidades e as resistências femininas na esfera jurídica, que defendia indispensavelmente depender da psiquiatria para uma atuação efetiva. A análise permite considerar que o discurso científico disseminado como verdade biológica, anteriormente legitimado pela religião, as classificam como inferiores em relação aos homens, pois em constante risco de desequilíbrio, logo, forçosamente, sujeitas ao tutelado masculino. A maternidade, suposta essência feminina, evoca as mulheres como cuidadoras, mantenedoras da vida doméstica e as convocavam a assumir lugares sociais impostos rigidamente, mesmo que ao longo da primeira onda do feminismo ranhuras nas redes de poder permitiram às mulheres alguma mobilidade. Os resultados as desvelam nos limites descritos pela conduta sexual e moral divulgada pela Medicina e autorizada pelo Direito, que normatiza a feminilidade sadia como mulher-esposa-mãe.
