Este artigo tem por objetivo apresentar alguns preceitos teóricos da Análise do Discurso de linha francesa (ADF), tais como discurso, sujeito e identidade, os quais são de suma relevância para se analisar os textos de nossa cultura. Em especial, para analisar as representações do professor nas cartas do Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD), as quais acompanham os livros didáticos para apresentar os guias, que direcionam o olhar do professor, quando se tem de fazer a escolha do livro didático nas escolas. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de caráter qualitativo com base nos pressupostos teóricos da Análise do Discurso de orientação francesa, com o recurso da revisão bibliográfica e análise discursiva das cartas de apresentação do Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD), em especial a carta de apresentação destinada ao ensino médio no ano de 2021. Sabemos que a Análise do Discurso é uma área do conhecimento heterogênea, levando em consideração o contexto sócio histórico ideológico de elaboração dessas cartas, visa maior compreensão das formações discursivas, da heterogeneidade, do jogo de imagens e dos diversos outros que constitui o discurso das Cartas do Livro Didático, destinadas ao professor. Assim sendo, concluímos que as cartas funcionam como um dispositivo institucional que marca um discurso autoritário, que busca controlar a representação do professor, mesmo sendo uma “simples” carta de apresentação do Guia, ali mesmo já tece a “falsa autonomia” que o docente tem ao escolher um livro didático.
