A preservação do bioma Restinga é de grande importância, pois ao mesmo tempo que este se apresenta como um dos mais ameaçados de extinção, pouco se sabe sobre a diversidade de fungos endofíticos que ali habitam, uma vez que estes fungos podem ser potenciais produtores de substâncias para a indústria farmacêutica, de cosméticos e de alimentos. Para os nossos estudos foram coletadas 34 espécies vegetais no Parque Nacional da Restinga de Jurubatiba, sendo 27 identificadas até o momento: Blutaparon portulacoides, Commelina erecta, Ipomoea pes-caprae, Schinus terebinthifolius, Allagoptera arenaria, Smilax rufescens, Byrsonima sericea, Sideroxylon obtusifolium, Guapira opposita, Clusia hilariana, Eugenia astringens, Remirea marítima, Inga maritima, Eugenia uniflora, Erythroxylum ovalifolium, Myrsine parvifolia, Manilkara subsericea, Cupania emarginata, Tocoyena bullata, Ipomoea imperati, Centrosema virginianum, Capparis flexuosa, Jacquinia brasiliensis, Inga laurina, Myrsine guianensis, Protium heptaphyllum e Canavalia rosea. Destas plantas foram obtidos 400 fungos endofíticos pertencentes a diferentes gêneros: Exserohilum; Gliocladium; Pestalotiopsis; Cladosporium; Curvularia; Penicillium; Phoma; Trichoderma; Aspergillus; Bipolaris; Guignardia; Beauveria; Alternaria; Colletotrichum; Nigrospora; Fusarium e Phomopsis, dentre outros. Cada isolado fúngico encontra-se devidamente armazenado e depositado na micoteca do LAQUIBIO, a fim de se garantir a preservação destas espécies e o fornecimento de culturas viáveis desses fungos para utilização futura.
Alternativas buscando minimizar os problemas ambientais, sendo estas menos agressivas ao homem, têm sido foco de pesquisas realizadas no Laboratório de Química e Biomoléculas (LAQUIBIO)/ISECENSA. Possuidor de uma micoteca com quase dois mil fungos de restinga da região norte fluminense, podendo alguns destes, apresentarem-se promissores na biorremediação de diversos poluentes, como aqueles à base de poliuretano, um dos mais vendidos no mundo, que é descartado em grandes quantidades na natureza. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver um meio de cultura para a seleção de fungos da coleção biológica do LAQUIBIO com capacidade de degradação de poliuretano. Para tal, foi preparado um meio de cultura com este polímero e 16 isolados de fungos foram cultivados e avaliados com relação à colonização de fragmentos de poliuretano. Observou-se o crescimento micelial de todos os fungos testados. No entanto, até o momento, apenas um isolado foi capaz de colonizar os fragmentos do polímero. Os resultados são promissores e novos ensaios devem ser conduzidos a fim de se detectar a produção enzimática degradadora de poliuretano por estes fungos.
O aproveitamento de resíduos orgânicos vegetais associados à colonização de fungos na produção de estruturas para serem utilizadas na composição de artefatos tem sido pouco explorado. Embora haja relatos da utilização de técnicas semelhantes na fabricação de peças para a construção civil, arquitetura e artesanato, na Europa e nos Estados Unidos, no Brasil estes estudos são escassos, não havendo relatos. Algumas espécies de fungos, têm a capacidade de degradar a madeira e podem ser utilizadas para aglomerar fragmentos de materiais ricos em celulose. Ao mesmo tempo, a exploração e seleção de espécies nativas para este fim pode contribuir para a prospecção de organismos de interesse industrial. Dessa forma, propôs-se neste trabalho isolar fungos decompositores de madeira e avaliá-los quanto à capacidade de colonização de substratos para a produção de uma estrutura ecológica com finalidade de compor materiais biodegradáveis que poderiam ser utilizados para diversas finalidades. Cogumelos de madeira foram obtidos em restos vegetais, em áreas de restinga e em árvores apodrecidas, no município de Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ. Realizaram-se isolamentos para a obtenção de culturas puras (fonte de inóculo), semeando-as em diversos substratos com composição variável de materiais orgânicos: capim de gramado, bagaço de cana, fibra de mesocarpo do fruto de coco verde e serragem de madeira clara. Os materiais foram secos à sombra, picotados e triturados em liquidificador. Foram adicionados 20% de farelo de trigo e 2% de cal hidratada em solução, para o umedecimento e autoclavagem. Após esterilização do substrato, cada isolado de cogumelo foi semeado e incubado no escuro para avaliação do crescimento micelial. As avaliações foram realizadas verificando-se aqueles fungos que melhor se desenvolveram, considerando velocidade de crescimento, maior cobertura do substrato pelo micélio e compactação natural interna do material orgânico utilizado. O fungo Pycnoporus sanguineus foi identificado como o melhor organismo para se obter o “Ecoproduto” proposto neste trabalho, juntamente com o substrato à base de bagaço de cana e serragem. Nessa interação, o fungo foi capaz de colonizar uniformemente o substrato, tanto interna quanto externamente, além de apresentar uma pigmentação alaranjada típica da espécie, agregando valor estético ao bioproduto. Além disso, as peças produzidas apresentaram-se leves e compactas, sendo uma alternativa aos materiais termoplásticos e espumas sintéticas na fabricação de diversos artefatos.
