O artigo apresenta aspectos da discussão sobre desastres no Brasil e no mundo apontando possíveis efeitos sobre as crianças e suas infâncias. Fica evidenciado que a reduzida consistência das políticas públicas para prevenção e para a assistência aos afetados em desastres, incluindo as crianças, decorre, dentre outros fatores, da pequena produção científica sobre a temática. Após uma definição conceitual da palavra “desastre”, as consequências dos desastres para as crianças são apresentadas. Finalmente, como conclusão, a análise das tragédias/desastres/crimes ambientais ocorridos nas cidades de Mariana e Brumadinho no Estado de Minas Gerais no Brasil aponta danos irreparáveis para a população e para as crianças atingidas.
