RESUMOma comunidade de prática (CdP) pode ser entendida como qualquer grupo cujas pessoas, possuindo prática e referência epistemológica em comum, reúnem-se regularmente para refletir sobre essa prática, aprendendo coletivamente a entendê-la e, principalmente, a fazê-la melhor. Mas o que acontece com uma CdP quando ela é "descoberta", incentivada e gerida por uma organização? De que forma a cultura e o controle organizacionais tomam parte nessa relação? Os estudos organizacionais sobre CdP's têm tido, predominantemente, uma abordagem funcionalista. Partindo de outra perspectiva, este texto pretende fazer uma análise teórico-conceitual sobre as CdP's e sua relação com as organizações da produção e do trabalho, particularmente no que se referem a aspectos de controle organizacional presentes em tal relação, e tomando como base obras e estudos organizacionais recentes sobre o assunto. Conclui-se que a gestão de CdP's nas organizações é uma impossibilidade conceitual, resultando num paradoxo: ao gerir-se uma CdP, ela deixa de existir.
