The effect of two flotation reagents: isopropyl- and ethyl-xanthates and two solvent extraction reagents (SX): Lix 984 and Lix 860IC on the bioleaching of a copper concentrate with Sulfolobus metallicus was analyzed. The experiments were performed in 250 ml shake flasks with 100 ml basal medium with an initial pH of 1.6, inoculated with a pure culture of S. metallicus and 0.5 % copper concentrate (38% of Cu) at 70oC. In the bioleaching flasks 0, 50 or 500 μg/mL of flotation reagent and 0, 10 or 100μg/mL of SX reagents was added. All organic reagents caused a strong inhibition of ferrous iron oxidation and growth of planktonic cells of S. metallicus. However, bioleaching in presence of 50 μg/mL of isopropyl-xanthate or 10 μg/mL of Lix 984 reached copper dissolutions of 70% and 72% respectively after 200 hours, compared with 98% in the process without organic reagents. These results suggest that isopropyl-xanthate and Lix 984 at the lowest concentrations used in this study would not affect the mechanism of bioleaching by contact of S. metallicus on the sulphide, however it strongly affected the indirect mechanism. Ethyl-xanthates and Lix 860IC, beginning with 50μg/mL and 10μg/mL respectively, generated a total inhibitory effect on the oxidation activity of S. metallicus on the sulphides.
PALABRAS CLAVES: Cardiopatías congénitas mayores, diagnóstico prenatal, ecocardiografía fetal SUMMARYCongenital malformations are the main cause of neonatal death; in most of the cases they correspond to major congenital heart defects. Congenital heart defects have an incidence of 8/1,000 live newborns, corresponding half of them to major congenital heart defects. To reduce the mortality of this group of children routine evaluation of fetal heart anatomy by ultrasound is recommended, allowing neonatal care, of those fetuses with congenital heart defects, at the appropriate time and place. Here we attempt to verify if prenatal diagnosis of a congenital heart defect improves the perinatal outcome compare to postnatal diagnosis. We observed that the prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart defects, does not improve the neonatal outcome, except in certain congenital ductus dependent heart defects (transposition of great vessels, hypoplastic left heart syndrome and aortic coarctation), where a better outcome has been shown for those new born with prenatal diagnosis. We recommend routine evaluation of the fetal heart during prenatal ultrasound, and to carry out fetal echocardiography in high risk groups or when a defect is suspected.
PALABRAS CLAVE: Eritropoyesis fetal, anemia fetal, trombocitopenia fetal SUMMARYWe present a literature review of most relevant fetal hematologic disorders, with special approach for the diagnosis and prenatal treatment.
PALABRAS CLAVE: Procedimientos invasivos, amniocentesis, biopsia de vellosidades coriales, cordocentesis SUMMARYObjective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and indications of invasive procedures in a population without termination of pregnancy. Method: This descriptive study was performed in pregnant women who had either assessment of risk for chromosomal abnormalities during the first and second trimester of pregnancy or detection of soft markers or structural defects at any gestational age from June 2000 to October 2006. The patients were counseled with regards their estimated risk, and were informed about invasive diagnostic tests. The invasive testing offered were chorion villous sampling (CVS), amniocentesis (AMCT) and fetal blood sampling (FBS). The prevalence of invasive testing was calculated and its causes analyzed according to the type of screening test. Results: Ultrasound was
