The request consists of a test of the "flattening", which gives the product a tensioning and deformation at an angle of approximately 150°. The methodology used was DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve and control). This tool is used to improve processes. Through this tool it was possible to identify the main Steelmaking and Rolling Mill process variables, which allowed the determination of an action plan aimed at root causes. With the implementation of the plan it was gave significant improvements in material quality such as reduction in inclusion level of 3 to 4.
EVALUATION OF THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND FEO FORMATION IN THE VSBM EAF AbstractIn order to assess the process stability of the EAF 1, in Steelmaking Management at Votorantim's Steel Mill and to understand the energy efficiency and FeO formation, the parameters related with these variables were collected and analyzed during three months. Energy consumption, including Electrical and chemical energy based on the chemical composition of the scrap and chemical energy from the natural gas burners were measured. The slag composition indicated that the conditions for foaming were not being achieved and thus, a significant thermal loss to the furnace walls could be expected. For the FeO formation, the amount of injected coke added and also the relationship between oxygen and equivalent load pig iron was evaluated. At the end of the work, some recommendations related to the improvement of the carbon injection and its form are proposed, to achieve a lower electric power input and a high metal yield, to ensure a process that can maintain a competitive position on the market.
CHANGES IN THE SLAGGING ADDITIONS TO IMPROVE SLAG FOAMING AND DECREASE THE CONSUMPTION OF ELECTRIC ENERGY IN VSBM EAF AbstractFoaming slag practice has been widely accepted in electric arc furnace due to its many advantages. Some are the reduction of heat losses from the arc to the environment, which decrease the consumption of electricity, and making possible a larger recovery of iron from the slag FeO through reduction by C additions. However, there is still a large field of study related to the proper foaming conditions for those wanting to improve process efficiency, furnace life and decrease tap-to-tap times. Thus, this paper aims the slag properties improvement through MgO saturation of the slag, increasing the foaming efficiency and reducing the losses of iron in the form of slag FeO. The changes introduced in the process resulted in a reduction in the electric energy consumption and an increase in the iron yield of the EAF based on a comparison of the produced weight and the charge weight.
