A method that remotely measures blood oxygen saturation through two cameras under regular lighting is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Two narrow-band filters with their visible wavelength of 660nm and 520nm are mounted to two cameras respectively, which are then used to capture two photoplethysmographic (PPG) from the subject simultaneously. The data gathered from this system, including both blood oxygen saturation and heart rate, is compared to the output of a traditional figure blood volume pulse (BVP) senor that was employed on the subject at the same time. Result of the comparison showed that the data from the new, non-contact system is consistent and comparable with the BVP senor. Compared to other camera-based measuring method, which requires additional close-up lighting, this new method is achievable under regular lighting condition, therefore more stable and easier to implement. This is the first demonstration of an accurate video-based method for non-contact oxygen saturation measurements by using ambient light with their respective visible wavelength of 660nm and 520nm which is free from interference of the light in other bands.

We proposed a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (CNN) model, which divides heart sound signals into normal and abnormal directly independent of ECG. The deep features of heart sounds were extracted by the denoising autoencoder (DAE) algorithm as the input feature of 1D CNN. The experimental results showed that the model using deep features has stronger anti-interference ability than using mel-frequency cepstral coefficients, and the proposed 1D CNN model has higher classification accuracy precision, higher F-score, and better classification ability than backpropagation neural network (BP) model. In addition, the improved 1D CNN has a classification accuracy rate of 99.01%.

This note reports on the development of a novel cantilever-based focal plane array (FPA) for uncooled infrared (IR) imaging. The FPA of 160 × 120 pixels consisted of a 1 µm thick low stress SiN x structure layer, a thin gold reflection layer and a thick gold bimaterial layer. A bulk silicon process that includes silicon-glass anodic bonding and deep reactive ion etching techniques was developed selectively to remove the substrate silicon and form silicon frames for every FPA pixel. The thermomechanical sensitivity of the cantilever pixel was measured as 0.11 µm K −1 , the noise-equivalent temperature difference of the FPA was theoretically estimated to be below 60 mK and the response time was calculated to be 15 ms. An optical readout system was used to measure deflections of all cantilevers in the FPA simultaneously, and thermal images of the human body were captured in good time. One of the unique advantages of this honeycomb-like FPA is the selective removal of the silicon substrate, which could increase the IR absorption efficiency by 48% compared with that fabricated by a traditional surface sacrificial layer process.

Real-time terahertz (THz) imaging offers remarkable application possibilities, especially in the security and medical fields. However, most THz detectors work with scanners, and a long image acquisition time is required. Some thermal detectors can achieve realtime imaging by using a focal plane array but have the drawbacks of low sensitivity due to a lack of suitable absorbing materials. In this study, we propose a novel photomechanical meta-molecule array by conveniently assembling THz meta-atom absorbers and bi-material cantilevers together, which can couple THz radiation to a mechanical deflection of the meta-molecules with high efficiency. By optically reading out the mechanical deflections of all of the meta-molecules simultaneously, real-time THz imaging can be achieved. A polyimide sacrificial layer technique was developed to fabricate the device on a glass wafer, which facilitates the transmission of a readout light while the THz wave radiates onto the meta-molecule array directly from the front side. THz images and video of various objects as well as infrared images of the human body were captured successfully with the fabricated metamolecule array. The proposed photomechanical device holds promise in applications in single and broadband THz as well as infrared imaging.
