River flooding has become a serious disruption for community which lives in downstream area of a watershed. Comal Watershed is annually experience river flooding caused by Comal River. Therefore, it is necessary to proper mitigation planning. This study organized the arrangement of river flooding non-structural mitigation planning. Qualitative approach was used in this study; not to mention the research design utilzed literature study and field survey. Literature study was used for finding out the river flood events record and affected area in downdstream area of Comal Watershed. Meanwhile, field survey was conducted to overview the socio-cultural condition of the community which live in it. The results indicated that river flooding non-structural mitigation planning area in downdstream area of Comal Watershed consisted of spatial planning in harmony with landuse management of Comal Watershed, detection and prediction of the Comal River discharge conditions through recording and observing hydrometeorological data, management planning of riparian zone, Disaster literacy toward schools and community, community communication system improvement, local wisdom enhancement, evacuation route arrangement, early warning system utilization, disaster simulation and reforestation. Mitigation planning is not only the responsibility of the government, but requires awareness and cooperation from the community.
Kampung Menjing has been developed as a local tourism in order to support development of Gayam Village as the new tourism destination. Undertaken by utilizing the potential resources of Kampung Menjing as “rural cultural tourism”. This study concentrated on analyzing the potentials and identifying the problem of those issues, then formulating the recommendation as the problem solving to manage its tourism plan. An observatory-participatory case study approach with comprehensive analysis was used for this research by using attractions, amenities, accessibility, available packages, activities, and ancillarry services (6A) analysis, Strenght, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat (SWOT) as well as matching between potentials and strategies resulted by SWOT/TOWS analysis as the research design. The data was received from indepth interview, small format aerial photograph, and field survey by organizing “total-participation observer”. The result showed Kampung Menjing took possession of three different potentials which has ready to develop as the main factors in order to be rural tourism village, while the development of tourism at Kampung Menjing comprised strategies which can be proposed for developing community-based sustainable tourism emphasized on the community-centered management concept in order to improve the welfare of the community. Moreover, goverment support was needed for development and maintenance funding in particular.
River flooding is a disaster that almost every year hits the downstream Comal watershed. This incident resulted in material, psychological, and even casualties. Therefore, a vulnerability analysis is needed to reduce the impact of flooding. This study aims to analyze the vulnerability to river flooding in the downstream Comal Watershed area, Indonesia. Vulnerability variables used are social, economic, physical, and ecological (environmental) vulnerability following the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Regulation 2012. Data were obtained from government agencies and interpretation of SPOT 5 satellite imagery. Data analysis were carried out using scoring and weighting. Moreover, the data classification were using the mean and standard deviation equations. The analysis showed that the vulnerability to river flooding in the Comal watershed area was dominated by a moderate vulnerable class of 10,832.15 hectares (49.69%) and distributed in 26 villages. Furthermore, the high level of vulnerability also covered a large area by 8,773.11 hectares (40.24%), and distributed across 29 villages. Therefore, proper river flooding mitigation planning with the characteristics of the area is needed.
Coastal areas are unique ecosystems because of the potential for abundant natural resources and hazards that can cause losses. Therefore, this study aims to identify the typology and coastal dynamics of Kukup, Ngrawe, Sepanjang, Drini, and Krakal, Indonesia, for analyzing the potential of natural resources and hazards. A rapid-integrated assessment was carried out to identify typology, genesis, and dynamics of coastal areas by conducting field surveys at locations that have been determined by purposive sampling. The results showed that wave erosion coast was formed in Ngrawe, Kukup, Drini, and Krakal. The marine deposition coast was formed in Ngrawe, Kukup, Sepanjang, Drini, and Krakal. Moreover, the coast built by organism can be found in Sepanjang, Drini, and Krakal. In contrast, the structurally shaped coast was formed in the western part of the Krakal. The coastal dynamics begin with geodynamic processes that form structurally shaped coast, hydrodynamics that form marine deposition coast, wave erosion coast, and ecodynamics that form coast built by organism typology. The potential of natural resources consists of fishery potential, agriculture, and natural beauty for tourism objects. In contrast, the potential hazards consist of earthquakes, tsunamis, tidal waves, rockfall, rip currents, topographic changes, and land-use changes. The coastal area management planning recommendations were Spatial Planning Regulation, Early Warning System, Evacuation Route and assembly point (shelter), Digital-based Information Dissemination, and building retrofitting.
