Bazzania has the largest species of the family Lepidoziaceae (Marchantiophyta). This genus is abundant in the moist montane forest. Diversity of Bazzania in Java insufficiently reported, especially publications about its diversity in Central Java have never been reported. Therefore this study aimed to explore the diversity of Bazzania in Central Java. Studies of the Bazzania were based on the specimens collected from three mountains in Central Java, i.e. Mt. Lawu, Mt. Ungaran and Mt. Slamet. The observation in the laboratory was done based on the morphological and anatomical feature of the stem, lateral leaf, underleaves (amphigastria) and microphyll. Identification of the species used the existing literature that contains key identification, description or illustration of the Bazzania. Eleven species of Bazzania were identified from Central Java, namely Bazzania calcarata, B. japonica, B. javanica, B. pectinata, B. praerupta, B. serpentina, B. spiralis, B. tridens, B. fauriana, B. perfalcata and B. succulenta. Three new record species, namely B. fauriana, B. perfalcata and B. succulenta are reported for Java. This result is the first report of Bazzania in part of Central Java
Epiphyte fern plants are fern plants that grow attached to the phorophyte tree. Existence of fern plants are effected by tree bark and environmental condition in which they grow. This research aimed to study the species composition, important value index, diversity index, evenness index, and similarity index of epiphyte fern plants in the Curug Lawe Waterfall Region Semarang District. This research was conducted on 5 research stations i.e. clove plantations area (CPA), irrigation canal (IC), mixed forest (MF), river flow (RF), and waterfall area (WA). The research used plot technique with plot size 10 m x 10 m. The results showed 11 species of epiphyte fern from 8 families were found. The highest important value index is obtained by Goniophlebium serratifolium. The diversity index of epiphyte fern plants are categorized as low and moderate. The evenness index of epiphyte fern plants are categorized as not evenly distributed, quite evenly distributed, and almost evenly distributed. The highest similarity index is in irrigation canal (IC) and river flow (RF). Environmental conditions in Curug Lawe Waterfall Region are suitable for epiphyte fern plants habitat. This research is novel as it provides some information about the community structure of epiphyte ferns in Curug Lawe Waterfall Region and to engage all peoples to maintain our biodiversity keep sustainable.
Microalgae are protists with eukaryotic cell structures which can be found in aquatic ecosystems such as rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, and oceans. The protist culture method can be considered as a technique to allow protists to grow in a certain controlled environment. The objective of this study was to determine the growth of microalgae in the different water sources A modified closed photo-bioreactor (bottle) was used in this research. The number of experiments was 130, each experiment comparing 5 different natural water resources which are well, pond, pool, paddle, river, tap water, and mineral water and tap water as control, all with 25 replications. Those bottles were put under the sun for 2 weeks. Every day, the colour changes were documented. The result showed that within 2 weeks, no colour changes for mineral and tap waters. On the fourth and fifth days, the watercolour of rivers, ponds, paddle, pools turn the greenish or murky brownish. This indicated the growth of microalgae in the bottle. The different colour indicates the different species or a group of species. This simple experiment able to be developed for practical work during pandemic Covid-19, when students have to study at home, but are still able to get their competence by small project-based learning.
