Si bien es notoria la existencia de diversos estudios relativos a las instituciones religiosas y a su normativa en la monarquía hispánica, los actores involucrados, sin embargo, han sido un asunto que frecuentemente se ha dejado de lado. El presente trabajo quiere observar el proceso de creación de normatividad eclesiástica para el control y gobierno de los monasterios limeños femeninos en el siglo XVIII, prestando una especial atención al rol desempeñado tanto por las autoridades eclesiásticas como por las profesas mismas, que, lejos de ser meras receptoras de las disposiciones, constituyeron una pieza esencial para su construcción. Este análisis se realizará principalmente a partir de la visita general a los monasterios femeninos limeños, más concretamente al de la Concepción, efectuada por el arzobispo Pedro Antonio Barroeta y Ángel en 1754.
El centro histórico de Lima fue declarado Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1991 a partir de los criterios de excepcionalidad, integridad y autenticidad. Este libro está conformado por una serie de unidades didácticas que abordan diferentes aspectos relacionados con su historia y con su patrimonio material e inmaterial; de esta manera, se examina la evolución del paisaje urbano y arquitectónico de la ciudad en el pasado a partir del análisis de diversos aspectos, tales como las similitudes con otros centros urbanos de América Latina y España o la destrucción y desaparición de elementos significativos provocados por la acción humana y los desastres naturales. Asimismo, el volumen se centra en la influencia que los diferentes grupos sociales tuvieron en la construcción de las identidades peruanas y en la conformación de un legado inmaterial de gran riqueza. Uno de los principales objetivos de este material didáctico sobre el centro histórico de Lima ha sido ofrecer a los docentes de secundaria herramientas para que los estudiantes puedan conocer y valorar diferentes aspectos del pasado de la capital peruana, pero se trata también de una obra útil para todas aquellas personas interesadas en acercarse a este enclave privilegiado.
Este trabajo profundiza en diversos aspectos relativos a las beneficiarias de encomiendas en el virreinato peruano en el siglo XVI, tales como su consideración social y jurídica, o el manejo y administración de sus encomiendas. Utilizando numerosas fuentes primarias, da un paso más al analizar en detalle los modos mediante los cuales las encomenderas intentaron -muchas veces con éxito- defender sus intereses patrimoniales o su propio honor y el de sus familias utilizando de forma muy diligente los esquemas judiciales de entonces. Gran parte de este estudio se realiza a partir del análisis de la encomendera sevillana doña Inés Muñoz de Ribera, cuñada del conquistador Francisco Pizarro. La lectura de este libro nos lleva a reconsiderar la idea del papel supuestamente pasivo de las mujeres en el Perú virreinal al permitirnos observar su contribución en el ámbito social, económico, político, religioso o cultural.
